Well you guys can continue to think they are doomed but SSD,s are the future.
They will over-take hdd's in a couple years but i still cannot understand why the pricing is so high, if the pricing was decent i am sure every single laptop on the market would have an ssd in it as the performance and power usage is unrivaled by standard hdd's. Infact if ssd's were priced right just about every person who owns a pc and wants something fast would buy because they are mind blowingly fast.
I do not get why 80-128gb drives cannot be 100 dolla's and then let the bigger capacity's sit at a higher amount. The problem is they are so expensive that not many are buying them so the price will take a long time to come down.
Surely by selling millions and millions at good pricing they make a fortune compared to the money they are making now. For instance go and use a netbook with a 1.6ghz atom test it with a 160gb drive and test it with a 8gb nano drive, it seems twice as fast and the laptop stays on for longer.
I have to boot into a normal 7200rpm for my games because windows 7 does not support punkbuster and going from a ssd to a normal 7200rpm is horrible, damn everything is so slow even on xp, i could never go back to working on a normal drive as the slow speed of it would kill me.
