Hi Folks
Today I spoke to a Kevin from Telkom, he is in the orders department. And he told me that our area uses Fibre Optic lines and we would need a special card in our exchange to allow DSL to work over the fiber.

And this special card is R60k.
Now.. this story sounds a bit Bullsh*t to me, can anyone clarify?

Regards

Hi Fieldy,
A friend of mine lives in Bryanston and has been trying to get ADSL for 18 months, but Telkom have told him because his local exchange is on Fiber Optic line, he cannot get ADSL!!

The funny thing is there are 300 homes in my friends street and I am 99% sure that 80% of them will opt for ADSL is it were available, because it is a wealthy suburb and most of these people would not mind paying for ADSL.

Telkom just seem to fcking everything up!!

Slimothy's in a real k*k mood today. Anyway, do a search through the forum using the keyword 'podo' - he posted some very clear and easily understood explanations about this particular issue, and what the implications are for prospective ADSL users in fibre-serviced areas...

My exchange is fiber. On the Telkom site it says that ADSL is not available on my number.
I got it installed last week. So there is hardware that can make it possible they just need to want to do it.

Streak

my exchange is also fibre, telkom have been giving me the same sad story that the whole of cowies hill (the suberb where i live) does not have access, but a few people up the road, connected to the same exchange can, so i dunno, telkom suck

I just wanted to add that I am currently connected to a Mini-DSLAM (the day the techie came to install my adsl the modem couldn't synch and he told me the mini-dslam was damaged and replaced it a week later). I have no complaints with my adsl except that the modem reports LOTS of errors(even though the attenuation and SNR are very good).

The techie was also training some new contractor that day and he told them (obviously I overheard) that the Mini-DSLAMS are causing telkom alot of heartache.(made my marconi btw.) So maybe they try to avoid installing them..

Just my 2c
