Are the e-toll gantries cameras accurate (without e-tag)?

...THank you Killerbyte for buying your e-tag, now, whenever you need to travel, make sure you take the toll road, do not go anywhere near an alternative routes that other people use, since you are now paying for the supposed "better world class roads", ie, next time you see a very fancy car driven by a government official, enjoy the view, and remember, you helped pay for it.

oh, and it is your freedom, so please do not see above as me objecting to your right to register for an e-tag.

Hell, abuse it all you can for the R450 limit. Use it if at all convenient to pass under a gantry. Abuse the uncapped road :p

:D lol, that what you get with uncapped, everyone wants to use as much as they can. Perhaps he should try making a u-turn afer passing the gantry, and driving through it again, repeat multiple times. Only at midnight though, so he gets maximum up and download...space :P

E-toll, pay a fixed fee because you registered, petrol price increases anyway...

The images are all black and white, so not likely that they can determine your vehicle colour with any certainty. Also, they wouldn't be able to prosecute from a guess of what your number plate is, that data quality would be way too low.

Oh, on the contrary.
The images are taken in colour. The images are then converted to black and white to simplify the character recognition process.

Nope, they're not, they're actually grayscale.

Having seen the video feeds being recorded by the systems as well as their live feeds myself, in person, on site, is all the evidence I need, thank you very much. As for how they determine vehicle colour from a grayscale image, there are several algorithms that can do that for you quite nicely.

Edit - This is exactly what the system sees.

You might be 100% correct, but claiming you've seen the system in action means nothing without concrete proof. As froot said, images might be converted to black and white.

I'm not saying I don't believe you, but I can claim anything as well.

Ja - let us hope that is EXACTLY what the system sees because that is EXACTLY what everyone should show it. I wonder if the guy will get into a little bit of *** over this - you know, make sure this oke pays. I see it also has cameras for the back of the car, so hiding plates won't help.

Yeah, I've seen them first-hand in feeds and photos. All grayscale.
There's no point at which the image is colour. The black filter on the camera lens is an IR filter that makes the image strictly grayscale.
And I've also had some interesting responses when discussing my CV in interviews.
