I do quite a lot of online backup, so looking for higher transfer rates - is there anything out there. Something quicker than 1meg upload rate.

Telkom ADSL only allows for up to 1Mbps upload rate for the 10Meg profile.
If you want higher you'd need to look at a diginet (very expensive) or perhaps an equivalent 3G or Neotel connection.

ADSL by nature doesn't have high upload rates. The highest upload rates on consumer DSL solutions is 3Mbit, the only problem here is that you need to be in a Telkom VDSL rollout area and be close enough to the MSAN to get 40Mbit/3Mbit speeds.

I would suggest you look in to a fibre solution if this is important to your business. Contact Neotel and see if they do fibre in your area (http://www.neotel.co.za/wps/portal/neotel_business_internet_neobroadbandfibre).

+1 for the Neotel solution if it is available. The one after that would be the Telkom VDSL

If you are doing very large backups it may pay you to look at a NAS solution with that being backed up over a longer time period to the offsite storage.

Have you considered approaching backup specialists such as EMC for a solution?
