So we had a company come to our place to talk about putting up a cell tower in our property.

All is fine except when questioned about where they are getting the backhaul for the tower because there isnt fibre in that suburb yet they said they not using any backhaul.

So now im confused, are some towers setup to repeat the signal?

I assumed all have fibre backhaul.

They cant run a mobile service from a base station without backhaul capacity, end of story. IF they choose to provide that via fibre or via PTP microwave links is their choice. There is very little difference technically, BUT the PTP microwave link will run out of capacity long before a fibre link will.

You are absolutely right to dig until you get all the answers out of them because sooner or later they are going to want to connect via fibre and you might as well know what the implications of a fibre link will be now upfront.

Hi,

If you are looking for a competing offer for a tower, let me know...

Yea always investigate further OP, we have the same approach if towers are away to expensive for us to hop onto we'd approach with an offer and then some added awesome features.

A newly constructed tower either has fibre backhaul already available, or it will have fibre backhaul in the future.

At some point, there will be digging.

Something else to consider is reselling the property if it is residential. You don't mind, but the next owner might, affecting resale value and ease of sale

There is lots of cell towers with microwave backhaul.

The issue is them saying there will be no backhaul (if OP is to be believed) which is patently incorrect, there has to be some kind of backhaul. If they were to BS me like that I would take anything else they say with a truckload of salt.

OP never said there was no backhaul. He simply said there is no fibre backhaul.

PTP Microwave can hit 10's of Gbps - Very close to fibre latency too, and cheaper to install.
True in the short term. Long term, expect ALL base stations to be backhauled by fibre, hence why this is an important consideration to take into account during the discussions even if the operator says he is not going to backhaul by fibre.
