We are selling our 4 bedroom home which my student son has been using for the past few years, and the wife and I only for a couple of weeks a year, and getting him into a small apartment for his final year.

Late last week I contacted 5 letting agents and have only heard back from 2 of them, and question wether they are just outright lazy, or business is so good that they don't need to bother with all enquiries.

This is not the only such experience I've had in SA.
A few years back I re-carpeted a 4 bedroom home, and invited a few carpet companies in town to quote, and after a week without a response, a company in a neighboring town provided a free quote, and did the installation a week later.

Are you in Cape Town? We experience that here were pretty much all service providers. Absolutely ridiculous.

Same in Joburg, I have to contact 3/4 suppliers or service providers to get 1 to 2 answers.

Realtors are after quick sells. Money becomes tighter and tighter year on year and so it is easier to sell 20 sectional title units to people that can afford it than spend time with people walking through your property week in and week out to find someone who can cough up 1.5 mil.

Most contractors are already busy with plenty of work or only want to work enough to get on by. Also many seem to be less tech savvy so even if you send emails and SMSes they never really check them and by the time they check their phone it's the end of the day and they are tired and don't care.

LOL, you would slice your wrists in Bloem. Here every single service provider is doing you a favour.

With regard to estate agents *spit* however, they were contacting me when I advertised my property on Private Property. Every single one however got the phone dropped on them, as I simply cannot deal with imbeciles who cannot read as the very first two words in my ad was "NO AGENTS".

I'm sure its the same "business men" that complain in the pub that business is bad, while sipping an long ale.

We have just sold our 4 bed home, and no agents fee - I selected the conveyancing attorney, the buyer pays that, and we split the 5% agents fee.
Estate agents have been making a killing far too long now, and the internet has made it much easier for the man in the street.
