Poor support from VOX

10 days ago I phoned VOX Support after a Superfone I was contracted to install would not register.

After countless calls to not only their support centers but also Head Office; the issue has still not been resolved with only one brief email from senior management implying that the client was at fault.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Or recommend a good alternative to VOX?

Having attended the launch at the V and A of the Superfone I was really optimistic but based on the above service am now looking for an alternative.

The client (10 days later) is still sitting with a non functioning unit (as described by their support center) with no resolution in site to date...

Switch Telecom - www.switchtel.co.za - 0800 060 100. We have humans with brains behind our phones, not robots with a flowchart.
Pricing is favorable by comparison as well and we support the same hardware (Siemens A580 IP) as well as various other VoIP phones.

gmza, what does your response have in common with the question "Are VOX any better than Telkom?"??

Please feel free to RAS away when somebody requires a solution. But here keep it on topic. fark!

s0lar: It has everything to do with the question: "Or recommend a good alternative to VOX?"

To answer your question NO

There are a number of alternative Telco's now available to you, however to me the most important factor is does the Telco I use have interconnects in place with every player, or do they use some sort of GSM routerbank to offload your calls to mobile networks and make themselves a quick penny or two.

Remember good interconnect ensures a good quality call, so make sure whoever you choose has their own interconnects in place, and can support all SA dialing prefix's.

Switchtel have most probably the best service and systems in place, plus they have good interconnects. Without hesitation I can recommend them, I use them myself and a number of customers of mine make use of them. They are always friendly and come back to you if you do need some assistance.

None of which is any use at all if "They are not always friendly and do not come back to you if you do need some assistance. "

I just got a private message from some from VOX asking me for my details as he would like to try and help.

(While I appreciate this very much,) I'm now using this forum to seek assistance in sorting out an issue VOX have so far been unable, or have not bothered, to sort out.

The issue was sorted out (or handed over rather) in a meeting this AM with an ISP, myself and the client. The ISP agreed to take over as the clients ISP and sort out the VOX problems as part of the package as they are resellers for VOX. Great for the client, great for the ISP. It left me however looking incompetent as I was not able, with the support of VOX alone, to get 2 of the 3 units I was contracted to install fully functional. And believe me I tried.

it all depends on your expertise and training.Do not feel bad.99% of the people in the industry do not know what they are doing,Thereby i mean that they only know their 1 % of the communications Industry.
You really need a Communications Expert and believe me we are NOT cheap.

I also am having problems with vox, they refuse to give any help on getting there sip account setup on a 3rd part pbx, like asterisk, or asterisk business.

we been trying now for 2 months just to get them to send a DID with the incoming number. the support people always give you a different response.

Hi gmza

Do you supply PBX units and phones as well? We are around 10 users.

Thanks

We offer Hosted PBX solutions and we do supply a range of VoIP phones, primarily Yealink on the desktop side and Siemens and Snom on the cordless side. There is a full catalogue of out handsets at http://www.switchtel.co.za/index.php?nav=voip_phones including current pricing. By way of example, a Hosted PBX solution for 10 extensions with 4 lines would be R350 per month (including VAT), but that is just an example and we'd generally quote once we have a better understanding of what your requirements are (i.e. how many simultaneous calls you need to make, whether you need call recording, whether you need a range of direct-dial numbers or just a single hunting number, etc.) At this stage we don't do on-site PBX units; there arn't many smaller PBX units on the market that we feel comfortable selling. We can refer you to one of our resellers if you're interested in them supplying an Asterisk or 3cx based PBX solution but for a smaller setup Hosted is the way to go.

For 10 extensions hosted the only way to go way to go ! The example GMZA gives above for 4 x 10 system includes the 4 lines @ R100 so your hosting fee for 10 extensions is R250. If you go the PABX route you will have to fork out the cash for it, it will have no more major facilities than the hosted solution, you will need support / SLA for it, it is not 'GREEN' it uses electricity, service technicians pump CO2 into the air while driving out to fix it & one day will get outdated and become toxic e-waste ! The SLA or service call outs will eat up the R250 rand saving on hosted fees ! So hosted or PBX ?
