Are we being duped?

I am afraid that the heads of a few of the positives are going to explode now that the myth of lowest electricity supplier has been shown for the fraud that it is.

It also highights that fact that spokesmen have no morales whatsoever. Even though it was pointed out to Etzinger that the graph used by NUS is based on a selected number of countries he still insists on using it because it suits his master.

Of course we are. The government and eskom put no value in truth or honesty, they are both corrupt to the core and will do whatever it takes to make sure they get their way.

They will remain "positive" despite anything you could show them because they have either deluded themselves to the point of no return or they are paid to be so.

I agree 100%

Fire the corrupt directors and replace them with competent people. What, is it not that easy you say ... Oh Snap!!!

We are expected to pay for the biggest management failure in South Africa's history.
Schussler said that according to Eskom's 2007 annual report, the price of electricity sold to both industrial and international clients were below the cost of production.
The reason for this is probably because these clients signed +-20 year contracts at fixed prices. This was most probably sustainable because Eskom had +-30-40 year with the major coal companies at fixed prices. Eskom's decided to terminate certain contracts with the big coal companies and source 25% of it's coal on the spot market. Ostensibly, this decision was to allow BEE coal suppliers and hauliers into the game. However, the major coal companies all have strong BEE credentials, no more so than Exxaro which is 55% black owned. Now we have a situation where Eskom has to annually purchase 30 million tonnes of coal on the spot market at +- 5 times the price than it paid on it's long term supply contracts. Add to that another 45 million tonnes of coal to have a 20 day coal reserve at the power stations. In my opinion, it is nothing short of gross incompetence and negligence .

SA never had cheap electricity in the residential market in my opinion. I paid more for the same amount in my house when I moved to Cape Town from the US than I ever paid on a monthly basis in the US. So tell me how SA had cheap electircity when I was paying more for the same (if not less because there was no central A/C - heating in SA house)?

It was always a scam... One the SA public like to believe was true....

"Coal supplies ran dangerously low to please Eskom's financial manager."
Doesn't that fall under treason? Willfully endangering the countries economy etc.
