Dr Kelly warned that South Africa’s competitiveness was slipping, not only against developed countries, but within Africa as well. The best case scenario in Africa, the West African country Mauritania, he said, had grown its teledensity by 43,5% in the last ten years, while South Africa’s had grown by 16,7%

Just as we are beginning to see some talk on the DoC side of the pricing equation (of course, we will have to wait forever for action!), you just know that Telkom and other entrenched groups (even the soon to be SNO) are silently preparing their legal forces to challenge, sidetrack and otherwise stall all meaningful price reductions. You would think a company that professes to being "Proudly South African" would delight in making telecommunications services widely and cheaply available to South Africans, but - no - they would sooner screw us over on behalf of their investors. It is not the "making a profit" thing that pisses me off most, it is the "making obscene profits and deliberately sabotaging technological and social progress for this end" thing that pisses me off most.

Telkom, you greedy SOBs, throw us a freaking bone here....

Telkom's caps, shaping and routers are really getting me down, it's going to get a lot worse on the 1st of Nov though. We are paying big bucks for something that is not even garenteed (sorry bout the spelling), Oh well , only in South Africa.
