... or turned out very differently from them?

I mean in general - such as values, morals and traits to simple things like what you wear, dress and how you decorate your house?
 
I'm pretty much like my father, except I don't wear those glasses with the sunglasses part that flips up.
 
Am short-tempered like my dad.

Have well-developed work ethic like my dad.

Have kindness and nurturing side like my mom.

Same kind of taste in decor as my mom.

More liberal and open-minded than both parents.
 
Yes ... unfortunately.

I have all of their weak points but little of their strong points.

And they have a lot of strong points.
 
I'm only realising now that I can see my dad in me sometimes!! He's very stubborn, and becomes extremely grumpy sometimes. I dread the day I become a splitting image of him. :p It will never happen though!
 
I'm quite similair to my mother in some regards and completely different in others.

We have similair tastes in home decor, same mentality to money (not a good thing :/), similair work ethic (I dont mind working 2 or 3 jobs if it means earning enough to behave badly with my money - see above for money mentality) & both quite liberal i.t.o. politics etc. We are completely different in that she denies the fact that she is completely off her rocker, she is 100 X more manipulative than me and is a lot more spiteful. I love my mother and admire her strength and perseverance but I hope that I manage to avoid her bad traits as I get older. SHe's great but hell she is a handful :/
 
Home decor is actually the reason for me bringing it up.

I could go through the Saturday Star with my exgirlfriend, and we've have very different tastes on houses that we like. Hers would be her mothers taste while mine would be my mothers taste.

Same as furniture stores : I'd be drooling over huge, brushed alluminium double door fridges with touch panels - and she'd be staring at the limegreen SMEG appliances ;)

I am with your gf on this one!! I love old-fashioned things (or in the case of the SMEG fridges, new things that were made to look old).

I love the colonial style of decorating, HATE very modern furniture and minimalism. The feeling you get from that is just too cold.

Well I've grown up in an environment where people of all races, religion, lack of religion, sexuality etc are treated equally. My mom was an anti-apartheid activist (with the Black Sash) and my sisters and I have developed a similair mindset. I know quite a few people who say 'gays are unnatural' or 'blacks are inferior' and that kind of nonesense. I try not to be offended by this stuff and try hold back on the ensuing anger (I dont always succeed) but believe that part of being open minded (as I like to think I am) means allowing people of differing opinions as much respect as those with similair view points and beliefs.

Aside from the smoking a lot of pot (which I dont) I'm basically a hippy. For example: the daughter I had at 17 has an idian (but practising buddhist) as a god mother and a quintessential gay man as a god father. For her 'christening' we had a 'naming ceremony' where all our friends and family (that range from reborn christians to hedonistic homosexuals to the mentally impaired) gave her a spiritual gift (love, strength, determination, the happiness of winnie the pooh etc etc). How else to mishmash that many belief systems into one none offensive ceremony? :rolleyes:

So yeah, thats my example... :p

Very cool trait to have : ) Provided she does it across the board.

There's little point in seeing a number of people from different cultures as equal, yet stilltreating each differently because of gender, the area they live, the money they have or the morals they live by.

I'm more like my mother. Being anything like my father would be a crime against humanity...
 
I'm very much unlike my parents. Yes, we share some traits but I didn't grow up being very close to them so my personality's based mostly on my friends' and their parents'.
 
I am relieved to be as unlike my parents as possible in life experiences, personalities and ways.
Got my parents good looks though. :D
