Hi,

I installed Ubuntu a week ago with steam and Ark. It worked. Was a bit sluggish but it worked.
Then the next day it did not. I have no idea what happened!

This and Arma 3 is the only games not working. I am running CSGO, Bioshock Infinity, Insurgency and Borderlands 2 without any issues whatsoever(still need to test Tomb raider)..

Has anyone playing on linux had any problems with Ark?

When I try to run Ark I can hear the music for about 2 seconds and then nothing.... Arma 3 kicks me out just before I start playing.

Hi

Not really answering, but I would like to try out Ubuntu, but scared because of the games. Would it be possible for you to give some more feed back with regards the users interface etc. cause if it's good and is better than Windows I want to change it too :)

Thanks man.

Loads of games on steam but unfortunately not all of the great AAA Windows games yet.

There is some great titles on steam for linux and I believe there are loads more on the way.
Here is some link for some news on the topic.

With SteamOS, SteamBox and Steam controller getting more attention these days, the amount of good Linux games will increase.

The number 1 issue on linux is AMD GPU drivers. Nvidia GPU owners do not have this issue.(I have AMD)

The plus : Ubuntu 16.4 is a nice OS. It is free and very stable.

You will have to do your research to decide if you and live with being limited by the amount of games available on Linux at the moment.

ps. I got COD MW3 to work without issues using PlayonLinux. If you own the game on steam then installing it using this software is pretty straight forward.

I see, thanks for the detail. I have a gaming laptop and a gaming PC. Obviously my gaming PC is better than my laptop. (On my PC I have AMD, but laptop is nvidia)

So I was going to try on my laptop Ubuntu, but on my laptop I only game CS GO and DOTA 2. And then everything else is work related. I did download Ubuntu before and installed it. It wasn't bad, nice and light.

But was just worried about the software capabilities. But I guess I'll just have to research and check.

But thanks for the help.

The reason I went over to Linux is because the only software that was not legit in my house was my windows operating system. At the moment my budget do not allow me to purchases windows so I went for the best free Legit alternative : Linux

I used the big bang approach of formating pc entirely and install Ubuntu(no dual boot). Now I am forced to learn to live with it and I must just say that I am very impressed since I only use my pc for occasional gaming, web browsing and lots of streaming.

Was very surprised to see that there is actually some good games on steam that I could play.

Should have done this ages ago.

I see, I'm downloading Ubuntu and mint to give it a try and see how it goes hehe

No one else here game Ark and Arma on Linux?
I do not play Ark/Arma but read quite a few issues regarding the titles on Linux.

What graphics hardware do you use, AMD or Nvidia?

Are you using open source or proprietary drivers?

How much ram does your pc have?

I have 8 gig ram. AMD8350fx, ATI radeon 9380. I am sure my hardware is up to the challenge.

What I have found from some research this morning is that Ubuntu 16.04 does not come standard with the ATI driver. I do not think they support it since Ubuntu 11.04? On AMD's website you can download a driver for Ubuntu 15.10.
I think Ubuntu 16.04 only support the open source driver. Not sure...

Debian on the other hand includes the ATI drivers(14.301.1001). So I have now backed up all my steam games and will download Debian and give it a go on there.

ps. SteamOS runs on Debian. This might be why they support these drivers. I also see they are testing with a newer version of the ATI driver (15.12.2)

That and this weekend the BattleField 1 trailer came out. We all know Battlefield will never run on Linux and I have a very soft spot for Battlefield.
