EVO Map for Beginners!
Well online we play the Evolution V3 Coop map, so its people vs the bots, but its really great fun. I gave up the campaign after 2 days, the bugs are too annoying, so i'd recommend
this. Its a single player version of the multiplayer map we play, there are a couple of differences tho.
Firstly in the multiplayer mode you respawn when you die, in singleplayer you need to restart, so save often. Also, the scoring and ranking system are different, but it at least gives you a feel for what its all about.
How EVO coop MP works is you need to accumulate points to increase your rank, you do this by completing side missions ie. Destroy the armoured units, or by killing enemies. The side missions are the most fun and rewarding tho, you normally get 10 or 20 points for a mission while you only get like 1 for killing a soldier. The side missions you usually do as part of a squad, as you need a few people to have a high success rate.
You can join a squad by going to the mission building, rolling your mouse wheel, and selecting request transfer. Your squad leader will then organise the mission.
The whole purpose of gaining rank is so that you unlock access to better weapons and vehicles. In the beginning you can pretty much only drive civilian cars and basic HumVees, and have access to only a basic m16 or mp5. As you rank up you will be able to drive strykers, choppers, tanks, jets etc and have access to machineguns and sniper rifles.
Once everyone is quite highly ranked and got good weapons you start assaulting cities. The first objective is to take out the radio tower, as until this is destroyed they will continue to recieve reinforcements. Then take out the shiilkas so that you can get decent air-support. After this its a case of cleaning out the city which is more difficult than it sounds. Then the process repeats.
This is a VERY basic breakdown of the game, so don't hesitate to ask for help, people will always be willing to help as we are trying our best to grow the community.
A few more things, the FDF1.1 sound pack mentioned before is a must, it improves the immersion factor hugely! Also teamspeak is not a must, but there really isn't any reason not to have it, it improves the teamwork much more and almost everyone is on it. Instructions for installing both can be found
here under the forums (which you'll need to register for if you haven't already), then under FPS go to FPS Other, then the Armed Assault area.
And one last thing, try and promote this game to your friends who play online, it truly is a fantastic game and once the community is large enough we can start play Person VS Person maps rather than playing Coop VS Bots. When we get this going then the fun will REALLY begin!
