Article: Absa defends banking costs

Haha value for money my ass :D Absa is just a bank. What do they offer apart from the usual banking stuff? What value do you get? What does their paid-for internet banking offer that the others don't?

If you want value for money then look at the blue and orange. Some of the lowest banking fees, you get a bunch of things for free and they provide you with offers that go beyond just banking.

When they say Value for money they must to talking to their stock holders.

ABSA = poor service, poor price.

One thing they have in their favor is that they give loans easier than other banks.. at a price of course.

I left ABSA for a reason, well many actually. I see it has paid of.

Same here.

But keep in mind that the more branches a bank have, the higher its expenditure...

Should Absa want to lower their tariffs etc, they'll have to close a lot of branches and lay off people...

Absa Bank defended its relatively high banking fees saying on Friday they focus on "value for money, rather than price".

What ?????????????? Value for money? Are these people wholly deluded?

This is the bank that gives the LEAST value for money and the most inefficient service I have ever experienced.

They would not know value for money if it hit them on the head!!!!!

Fantastic idea. The less there are of them, the better.

Absa's cheapest option, the Silver Package account, has average monthly charges that are more than double that of the Capitec account.
Points and laughs.

Funny how companies always defend their expensive fees with the 'value for money' argument, without actually saying what the value is compared to others.

Capitec for me thank you. R4.00 per month and R2 per debit order x 5 = R14.00 and I can swipe my card as many times as I want with no charge and free internet banking that is super dooper fast that can do exactly what the other banks can do...except perhaps buy prepaid airtime.

This is a fail for ABSA me thinks.

I found it extremely easy to close my ABSA account*
The teller did ask why, I didn't give them the whole disgruntledness story that would be a 2 page essay, only the easy peezy "your bank charges"

*That is after waiting an age in the queue for lack of tellers resulting in my wife storming out after their rude security guard selectively gave her lip for texting on her blackberry in the bank while ignoring his 'buddy' who was chatting away.

This was after many months of ABSA pissing me off with inconsistant service among their branches. Some you can do this but not that and others you can't do **** and still others you can do that but not this only differently and try to get a bank statement out of them all hell breaks loose because they don't want you to see how much you're being ripped off. Pathetic really.

Glad to be rid of them.

I've been very keen on trying out capitec, but the prepaid airtime has been one issue. I'm beginning to wonder if FNB/eBucks isn't a better option...

Absa sucks but so do the other options.

Maybe the banks should be nationalised...the service can't get worse. :p
