Article: Bridge collapses on Witkoppen road

anybody got a google earth pinpoint for us which bridge this is?

Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said the bridge crosses over Braamfontein Spruit which is the longest stream in Johannesburg.

It collapsed between Rivonia Road and Witkoppen road in Sunninghill at 5am.

Also not sure exactly where this is

Edit: Isn't Braamfontein Spruit that one just up (about 500m) from the Rivonia Rd turnoff towards Midrand side?
Sorry, don't know jhb well but saw a guy drive his car down the bank into that spruit on the N1. No idea how he got through the armco barrier.

Pretty sure it's the one between Campbell & thistleton and builders warehouse. That one and the one on the paulshof side have always been an issue. They are more like drifts than bridges their clearances are so low. A couple of people have gotten their cars stuck and drowned over the last few years. Time for a rebuild for both of these.

Um, I drove on that bridge on Witkoppen just before Achter road in Paulshof last night and today... No problems. I suspect it's somewhere further up Witkoppen beyond the Rivonia interchange towards Sunninghill.

Either way, each side of Rivonia has bridges that have always been problem sections for years when it rains like it did. avoid regardless in future. Paulshof side is shocking when it rains, and the other side just after builders has taken Sandton 4x4's out many a times.

Both those bridges are too old.... just like the ones in Buccleuch.

They rebuilt the one in Buccleuch but made it just as low as before, so much fail. What a waste of money.

All of the Bridges in the area need a relook, they need to be raised by at least a meter or 2 and then widened.
