Article: Checking your till slip

Not had the same experience but I always keep an eye out when the cashier is ringing stuff up and double-check my till slip.

I always watch the till and check my till slip. Had mistakes happen a few times but none like in the link.

I do the maths as I put things in the basket so if it is R10 more than what I calculated I have a quick scan through.

No I don't look at the content of the till slip. Maybe I'm foolish in thinking cashiers are honest.
Can't say that it happened to me yet, I hope not.

had this once happen to me before, 2 liter milk scanned at R123.14 when the price was R13

most expensive milk ever, milked by angels, on mount Olympus:D

learned the hard way to check till slip very carefully.

Do the maths in my head, and watch as the items are scanned through... I know within a few rand what the bill will be, so nothing can "creep" in.

I am also wary of this excuse from PnP about their system capturing unintentional withdrawals... it seems more than slightly flimsy to me.

Personally - I'd speak to the bank about this - as that is too high risk and prone to abuse.

Responding, Pick n Pay’s business intelligence general manager, John Swanepoel, said a thorough investigation of the incidents had revealed that it wasn’t the system which was at fault, but rather “a case of two cashiers making the same mistake”.

“That doesn’t mean we take this lightly, and we will be making some tweaks to our tills to make sure the cashback key is not inadvertently selected by the cashier, which is what happened here.

What a blatant lie! So the cashier "hit the button by mistake" and than also had to manually put in an amount "by mistake"? The only way a Cashback can be authorised is if the cashier enters an amount after the transaction is selected.

:wtf: I must check from now on..... Tx for the tip.

I hate this. Half the time pnp or woolworths will go check the price and tell me the price tag on the shelf is for a different item - like customers must check the bar code on each label and match it to every item.... Ffs
