Let's hope MickeyD doesn't land up in a stranger's bed
A Comrades runner has been asked to return a stuffed Mickey Mouse toy he snatched from the hands of five-year-old during the race.
Arman Moodliar's parents say that the boy has been virtually inconsolable since the incident and have called on Comrades runner Tshokela Maphori to return the stuffed toy, which was a gift from his grandmother, as soon as possible.
The incident occurred seven kilometres into the race, when the dummy-sucking Maphori saw the Arman Moodliar waving the toy in the air and snatched it from him, leaving the five-year-old in tears.
"He just took it from my hand and ran away," Arman Moodliar said. "I am going to find another big man to get it back for me and send him to jail. It is not nice to take something that does not belong to you."
The boy's grandmother, Premla Moodliar, says that she spotted a photograph of Maphori in the newspaper and contacted the paper to help track him down.
"I think the runner was in a festive mood. But, he should have known better than to take a toy from a child. I just want him to return it to Arman," the grandmother said.
The newspaper then tracked down Maphori to his home in Limpopo and found the stuffed toy tucked into the runner's bed.
"It was my good luck charm. I held the bear right through. He gave me the power to win (finish)," Maphori said. "Now he sleeps right next to me in my bed. I like it too much. It is like having my very own baby."
Maphori, though, was surprised to hear that Arman has been inconsolable over the loss of his toy.
"They can come and fetch it from me. It will be sad to let it go. But I don’t want to upset the baby."
