Article: "Plan" for 2011 public holidays

must be a slow news day

Might not be of interest for you but it will be for people working shifts having desputes about holidays falling on Sundays and not getting pay`d for that day, because the employers believe that the public holiday has been "moved" to the monday and not that monday is a aditional holiday. very frustating.

This news is of very great concern to me as a management. It means potential problems with staff and significant loss of productivity. :(

I would have thought that this is standard procedure every new year?

The public holidays do not always fall on the same days every year (in case you have not noticed). As the article points out (if you read it) this year is a unique combination in that it has an inordinate number of public holidays near weekends (which means there will be more lost work days this year). Millions of Rands are lost every year due to all the extra days taken off work. It might not concern you as a lowly worker, but it concerns those who own and run the companies (since in many cases it can mean the difference between surviving or going into liquidation).

Ah so I'm a lowly worker. Nice Gary :)

Oh and in case you have not noticed. Calendars are published every year. In advance nogal. Buy one. Then you won't need a news article to tell you when the holidays are and you can actually plan ahead. Some of us in management actually do that ;)

Way ahead of you on that one. Had mine for several months already before the end of last year. Anyway, this was not intended to be a debate around the use of calendars. I was just pointing out to those of you who thought the article was a waste of time, that it had some relevance. How you run your business is of little interest to me. if you don't want to read the article, then don't... but some of us find use in them.

If you had the news months ago, then why is this article relevant?

if you don't want to read the article, then don't... but some of us find use in them. Go back to your work. Let the employers deal with these issues.

:)

Shame buddy, time for you to attend some anger management classes.

Wow, says the guy who spends his time trolling internet forums to comment on the quality of the articles published. Really mature use of your time there buddy! ;)

OK, so I guess you will be providing an expert detailed journalistic critique of the article for us any minute now. :D

Something other than "slow news day" please. Cos that is kinda weak. ;)

Show us what you got... or shut the hell up.

Ask your mom to explain it to you slowly.

Not only do you fail to come up with anything significant in the way of critique, but you also use on of the oldest insults in the history of mankind? Pathetic, but not unexpected.
