A "turf war" between former president Nelson Mandela's family, the government and the Nelson Mandela Foundation caused a communication crisis around his hospitalisation last week, according to news reports on Sunday.

"Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe eventually stepped in to take control of the situation, neutralising the family feuds and turf wars by putting the military in charge," reported the Sunday Independent.

Petty squabbles continued even minutes before the press briefing as some family members insisted on sitting at the top table with Motlanthe.

I don't think the media is making this bigger than it is, instead I think the infighting is probably being under reported. (by order)

Some people take their 'status of importance' very very seriously.

I think this 'panic' event will not occur again, now, rules are going to be made for future events of this magnitude.
