Public figures are fair game, IMO. You need not look further than this forum to find derogatory remarks about politicians and celebrities. Why should these FHM employees be treated differently? We would expect the ANC to fire a minister for making sexist comments. Why should it be different for other high profile organisations?

If it is the cleaning lady making derogatory statements, the general public probably does not know who she is and therefore it does not matter.

Corrective rape is not a figure of speech. They went for plain old shock value. And it shocked, alright. So much so that the public lashed out at them.

Contractually, the issue isn't the shock value. The issue is the repercussions thereafter, which considering they intended shock value, they knew the repercussions thereof. They after all signed an employment contract with standard disrepute clauses.

If people getting shocked is something we need to worry about then two-thirds of the internet should be blocked, lest we have people having a wobble every other day.

They said they should be correctively raped. There is no analogous inference. It was intended for the shock value, pure and simple.

And please read my post again. The issue is not one of the shock value, but the repercussions thereof.

It's not just about being offended or shocked.
It displays a total lack of sensitivity for rape victims of which there are more than a million a year.
Rape can be devastating for victims, it's a lot more than just being shocked.
