President Jacob Zuma's approval levels in urban areas have stabilised close to their lowest point since the last general election, a survey revealed on Monday.

Zuma's approval rating in the middle two weeks of May stood at 42 percent, research company TNS South Africa said.

In February, Zuma's approval ratings fell to their lowest with 41 percent saying they believed the president was doing a good job, TNS said.

"Historically, the net sentiment towards the president has been positive in general, but with many sitting on the fence," the company said.

"In 2009, up to 31 percent were undecided about the president. Those sitting on the fence fell to 14 percent in 2011."

TNS said that over the past year, people who were undecided made up their minds about Zuma and fewer than 10 percent remained undecided.

When Zuma first came into office people gave him the benefit of the doubt but over time people formed views about the president and some who were positive had changed their minds, the company said.

"Overall, sentiment towards the president has become negative."

In February last year the rating stood at 55 percent and in August at 48 percent. The proportion of people who did not approve of the way he was doing his job had risen to 51 percent.

The survey was conducted among a sample of 2000 adults from the seven major metropolitan areas in the country.

Excuse my ignorance but zuma cannot be president again if i am not mistaken, does it matter if his approval rating drops when he won't be the next leader?

Please note i realize the question could be idiotic but does it matter if his approval dropped to 0%, what does that mean when he is leaving office next year. Obviously he isn't doing a good job but we all know that, will it changed the way he runs the country? Will he stop spending hard working people's money on his 5 or 10 wives? What does the rating actually show other than he isn't doing his job well and people have no confidence in him or less. Does it matter to him or the anc though? considering he will be leaving his job shortly.

Excuse my ignorance on the matter but i would prefer an answer to being tuned broken, i am an idiotic at times and ask stupid questions so i let's get that out the way, an answer would be more helpful.
