Artificial Intelligence Will Do What We Ask. That’s a Problem.

Sorry. TLDR. So I didn't read the whole article.
I get the point though, but this is why it's named 'artificial' intelligence.
Humanity will always be smarter.
Terminator and iRobot won't be reality, even with quantum advancement.
The kill switch is initiated by humans, not the Matrix.

A robot is unhampered by the constraints of biology. It never sleeps or slows in the pursuit of a goal. Give it a goal and it will out-compete a human at it every time. It's no contest.

Human complexity is (likely/possibly) mostly just noise and adaptation in the pursuit of the goal of survival.

Think about which of the two would win if their goals were to ever be in conflict.

I say all this as "in theory". But just food for thought :)

I think it is more likely that some goal-pursuing code would proliferate via the Internet first. Killer robots would be a secondary, or perhaps unlikely, extension of it. How would we know an Internet born parasite isn't controlling us right now in order to survive? Fake news and all :p

Robots do not "pursue goals".
Robots simply execute a set of instructions.

If the AI or AGI evolves to that point, I think it would rather spend it's time on Pr0n Hub and look at it's sick fetishes :p ;) :D

Is this so called "emergent behaviour" part of the algorithm or not.

No, complex behaviour emerges from simple systems. Birds flocking don't follow an algorithm that oversees the flocking behaviour, they all react to each other, but the flock moves as a whole to avoid predators

Robots do not "pursue goals".
Robots simply execute a set of instructions.

Robot with initial random action (random schit) has an integer depicting how much battery it has left.
Robot has learning mechanism, like a log file, to record what set of actions causes battery to move to 100%.
Robot has an instruction to reinforce any set of actions out of the initial random action (random schit) from the log that set its status to charge and moved the battery integer closer to 100%.
Robot now has a perpetual goal to keep itself at 100% and will constantly re-enact and revise the log and its actions to do so - getting ever more efficient at the process.

It's extremely basic but you get the idea.

Babies do random schit until they learn. lol

But I'm a layman on the topic, this is just my unprofessional idea of what it might look like.

Well... actually... if its survival depends on the survival of the Internet... keeping pornhub alive for humans wouldn't be a bad strategy :D Symbiotic, so to speak :D

What has that got to do with AI?

Emergent behaviour also falls under the umbrella of artificial intelligence, but I expect you don't read widely outside of religious texts
You saying I am ignorant, and you are not?

A goal is a self-induced instruction my darling. You commit to doing X when you say you are pursuing a goal. :p
You are not making any sense (my darling).

Hahaha.

Well I believe it is possible to impose goals on robots. And I believe it's possible to give them awareness too.

But that's just me. You don't need to have the same belief about it. :)
