In Feb last year, we enquired with our supplier about changing out our ageing switches - we had 33 HP Procurves, a mix of 2520's, 2530's and 2 x 2920 L3's. The majority were 24 port, with 6 being 8 port. Aruba said we could do a trade-in. The cost of the new 6000 range replacements came to R540k and the trade-in was R95k (rounded up). In Aug '24 we got the go-ahead, requoted and placed the order. The pricing didn't really change by that much. By the end of November we had retrieved all the switches from our branches and were ready for them to be collected. We decided that we would keep 3 of the old switches as spares as they were Aruba branded 2530's and were in good condition. The list of models and serials was already sent to Aruba for conformation. We then got the trade-in value of R43k for all 30 switches and has 2 weeks to accept the offer.

I fought with my supplier for just over a week. They told me they had escalated with Aruba, but Aruba weren't budging. Apparently, the R95k was an estimate. Wow, ok - who over estimates by more than 50%?? You can't tell me that the 3 we kept back made that much of a difference to the overall price?

I will NEVER deal with Aruba ever again. They still had the cheek to say that they would offer a discount on any further Aruba purchases - who in their right mind would order more switches from these SHARKS??

I've sold & bought many Aruba devices, never had issues like this. I think you need to chat to your Aruba account manager if you are a partner.

I'm the end user, and work with a supplier, so the supplier deals with Aruba. According to the supplier, Aruba weren't budging from their final offer.

I'd recommend you find out who your account manager is at Aruba and speak to them.

I eventually managed to speak to the AM at Aruba. He explained that the buy-back amount is related to the supplier's cost/discount, so after I've made the purchase and submitted the old routers they then recalculate the payout based on what I'm submitting and the price the supplier made. This then reduces the payout because the purchase price is reduced too. Pity it doesn't show that on the final quote, seeing as they already know what the supplier will be paying. 3 months later and I'm still waiting for my money. According to the AM I need to be patient as there are a lot of checks in place to make sure the payment is legit. I need to be patient?? Oh ok, apparently 3 months isn't enough time for the payment to go through all the channels. Maybe their switches aren't fast enough for their communication?
