Gupta, who was seconded by Tata subsidiary VSNL, Neotel's strategic equity partner, has an MBA specialising in finance and a degree in law. He was previously a chief financial officer and president of VSNL and has also worked in the steel and pharmaceuticals industries.
He oversaw VSNL's listing on the London and New York stock exchanges. He has also been responsible for expanding VSNL beyond India's shores.
He was recently named by India's biggest-selling daily business newspaper, the Economic Times, as one of India's top 10 chief financial officers. He has been associated with Neotel since mid-2006.
According to Fin24 Gupta, Neotel's chief financial officer (CFO), has resigned in September 2008 after the country's new telecommunications operator uncovered allegations of "improper conduct".
