ASA Ruling

How the hell does rebel do it...I'm on 3gb and my p2p doesn't work properly and torrents don't work anyore...

Yea torrentflux is kewl

Slimothy, out of interest sake, how are you able to hit 80gig while only paying for 9? Even if you downloaded constantly on 64k, you will only hit 20 gig in one calendar month?

because the bandwith manager isn't as secure as you assume it is, for instance you can leave a file for 24/7 and early in the morning it seems to just open up to full speed, i put it down to them playing with bandwith managers or something but it does it pretty consitently and within the space of 4 hours you can get 1.5 - 2GB

This month its been less open from the looks of it but I have had less to download anyway. I do buy extra bandwith as well, but only about 9GB a month, sometimes less, but so far theres never been a point where I needed to get soemthing but couldn't because there was no bandwith.

Also when you're throttled it bounces up to 20 - 30 kBalot, i'm not sure if others get that, downloads start at about 35K, take a minute to get throttled to 8K and then bounce up to 10 and then suddenly it will just just to like 20.

I think its because its all software controlled, so all in all its less strict

Yea I guess. Dude, you must be one of the lucky ones. When I was on 512k with Sentech I had 0 problems when the world around others crumbled. Up and till the point when so many users were experiencing problems and we made waves with the media, that Sentech decided to "fix things" and then fcuked up my perfect uncapped connection :( then I felt everyone elses pain.

For your sake, I hope it lasts. But what would your opinion be when 1mbps ADSL releases? With so many bandwidth options, you could probably get away with a 30 gig cap and 1 mbps ADSL for the same price of the 9 gig don't you think?

Then again, I havent been capped on ADSL so I don't know how k@k the speeds are really.

when you're capped...there are no speeds. period.

you better have some local files to d/l, cos you ain't getting no international!

if 1mbit adsl came out tomorrow with IS or UUNET offering uncapped or even a 30GB account would take it hands down.

right now I seem to be able to get my GBs so I'm happy but if tomorrow I wasn't able to for whatever reason I would probably look at 512 ADSL with an uncapped account.

It's all about who gives me more speed and Gbs, I know it seems like blind loyalty when I say stuff about iBurst on these forums, but make no mistake I will jump as soon as I don't get what I need from iBurst or someone else offers more.

And what's wrong with 30GB ADSL ISP a/c with a SAIX reseller? [assuming 1Mbits/s ADSL was available tomorrow morning]

ok well with them too, as long as its no fly by night, its 1mbit and i can download alot I would take it no questions asked, I would also piss on my iBurst modem and never return to these forums. Not because iBurst is bad for me, but just because I know WBS will never have uncapped accounts and after reading the kyocera website I can also see 1mbit is about as fast as we can expect it to go, I'm already used to 1mbit, I want 2mbit now.

The telkom guys should try torrentflux through a local hosted server? What ya think Slim?

so everyone over a 100% of their allotted bandwidth got disconnected and forced to buy more bandwidth.

Not everyone, my account wasn't suspended and I'd used over 7Gb at the time of the suspensions.

Actually Slim ... 2Mb/s is on the horizon for the Oz ibursters .... would be interesting to follow their threads towards the end of the year...

i did hear about that, but they must have adapted the towers a bit and the firmware to use 6 channels instead of 3 for 2mbit.

Basically I'd love to be wrong but i reeeeeeally don't see WBS spending anytime or money investigating the possibility of 2mbit for SA. Even if they did and it came out later on I'd probably opt for wimax since it won't be licensed to one operator.

I think the ADSL policy of keeping local uncapped is ending soon. Local servers suck balls I find, you're lucky if you can get on a 10mbit backbone :p

If you were gonna do soemthing like that i'd give you my software, I coded a torrentflux clone from the ground up thats got more features and is easy to install if you have multiple user setups, I will be testing it on my own server from 1 July but so far it looks good.
