Asking for salary amount?

I applied for CA trainee article contracts to 3 firms.

I got a yes from 2 of the firms. So my question is: Is it okay to ask how much I will be paid if I will start working there?
Because from my experience, they are all like: "you are here for training" so don't expect much. What we pay you be grateful for....

No different to any other job offer. They'll provide your salary upon making a formal offer, you can either compare offers or negotiate a better price...

Generally companies will bring it up, if not just wait for the offer as mentioned by Mike.

Don't assume. It is actually very different.

Most people sign up for a prelim training contract long in advance. Like 2-3 years ahead. So you're already committed to accepting the offer way in advance. Its effectively 3-4 contracts instead of 1 as with a normal job. The legal employment contract is really just an after-thought.

It doesn't really matter for two reasons - 1) they don't negotiate 2) the firms pay about the same & re-adjust yearly to be in line with the rest 3) Professional body regulates the salaries (broadly) for trainees. So its pretty safe to sign blindly.
