Hi there...

Can someone provide me with a GOOD but affordable hosting company hosting ASP pages... ASP.NET etc...

And if possible, I want to move my domain to that company...

Thanx...!

WebAfrica is 35c per MB after 500MB. Not too shabby.
IS is 16c per MB after the first 500MB, so, if you're running large traffic volumes, IS may be the better option.

Thanx teraside...

I see that they only give you 500MB transfer per month. I am going to run a LARGE project which will require kinda alot of bandwidth, alot of mail accounts, and unlimited sub-domains. I had something in mind like the hosting of TEXO, but they ONLY support PHP / MySQL... I have moved from PHP to ASP now for different reasons...

Thanx...!

Self host it!!!!
Use apache + php5.2.8 + mysql 5 + aspx plugin + perl +ftp + port shaping

PM me if help needed setting it up..

I host my own aspx and I use about 15gig local...I host it on my 4mbps line...

He said it's a large project, which means he probably needs his site to have high availability, i.e. not when his exchange / provide / desktop has problems.

Why would you need to host it locally? They offer 4GB international, which is fine in my opinion.

Check their other hosting packages. Have a look at this:
https://www.webafrica.co.za/reseller/webhosting/windows/

For just below R500 you get 120GB bandwidth. I bet that's enough, no? :p

Remember, you don't actually have to resell accounts, in order to have the reseller pacakage. Anyone can sign up for the reseller packages, they just provide more flexibility.

I know, the company I work for is moving in the same direction within a few weeks ;)

Large projects are not necessarily large files. It can mean mean something that has a lot of mail accounts, databases, infrastructure, etc and is usually important.

Check 000Webhost
They offer 5gig space and 100gig bandwidth
They also host asp files , unlimited sql databases
the email acount depends on your skills to link the email account
Like [email protected] to the project you creating
RUN A DEMO First....
You can also back up the site and export to another hosting company anytime..

AND its free

Thanx for the responses guys... Mast say Dark Agent have valid points. My project is large in the sense of it is not physically large in size, but in functionality, and data management...

This site would require alot of bandwidth per month, security, anytime support (server maybe down, or account info).

I think I would setup my own web server, as that would be what I eventually would have done on the long run...!

It's your choice at the end of the day. But as RavenServers could confirm. There's a reason why hosting companies can boast with 99percent uptime etc.

Their servers are made to last and most companies have their failover routines sorted out already.

I'm not saying you'll never experience problems. But believe me your clients/visitors etc. will have a much better experience viewing your product from a server from WebAfrica or similar than they would from your measly 4mbps line.

I wouldn't want to view your site/project, I'd fall asleep at the loading times :p

Also ask if the company has uptime auditing / public statistics - for example we have our statistics for the past 3 years, as well as service - specific reports from last year. It's also important that these are done by a third party.

All the best PHTech with the project.

Ya, For the start you can always start small and then host it elsewhere.
For the start he wants to develop the site, update it all the time until its stable.. then look forward in hosting it....

Imagine uploading the whole asp project again and again...

So for a developer at the start is to host it yourself..
I also developing an aspx site and update it everyday... last year when I host it at the paid company , I had to suffer uploading it again and again and paid for 2gig extra..

I also had problems refreshing the database because asp.net needs to write new parameters(depends on what project)

So now my question is: if I am going to run a project which would generate a very nice income, and I can afford to purchase something like an HP ProLiant Quad CPU server (not an excuse for a server which is a desktop PC), would it still be worthwile hosting at a company which is physically like 200km away from you, where you only have such limited control over your servers...?

If you should get an even faster line (if possible), I would do that as well. The thing (once again), is that it is a large project in the sense of its functionality, e-mail dependance, and user interaction. The files are NOT physically large in size, so no waiting for it over a 4Mb line. Not at all...

HP servers are pretty much bullet proof so you can't really go wrong with them. As for hosting 200 KM away, it would depend if they provide the facility for you sending spares for the co - location.

Depending on the ability for you to able to physically get there (if you are willing to pay for remote hands at the DC - something that not all DCs have) and most importantly cater for spare parts would define the need for this.

If I were you, I would not host it at home if uptime is important and I would also not take the risk of hardware failure when you can't really replace the part (or even access the system because there are no remote techs until morning) easily. It also sounds like potentially sensitive information will be stored on the server and it is irresponsible to store this at your home compared to a really secured location.

LOL This is a loaded question. Every developer is going to suggest the host that they are with at this point in time. Good idea to get an idea on where to go (or more likely who to avoid), but we're all biased, aren't we? :D

For the record, I chose www.winhost.co.za - .Net 2.0, basic package R55/m - does what I need, and I can upgrade as I need to.
