Just a warning to anyone with an Aspire A110, I tried to make a bootable usb from the recovery dvd. It threw back error 39 and refused to format the flash disk. When I rebooted I discovered that one of my 1TB drive's partitions were gone

Busy trying to rebuild it atm.

Yup 1 terabyte, just managed to recover it with testdrive though. It was full too....

Edit: testdisk, not testdrive

Stop playing with the recover DVD, you're doing it wrong.

Download Ubuntu netbook remix.
mkbt20.zip - makes usb disk bootable (MKBT, Make Bootable)
WinImage - to write Ububuntu CD iso to USB stick

Works like a charm. :D

Glad to hear you got it back. I guess thje moral of the story then is to remove any external drives first?

I'm actually running the NBR of Jaunty on my A110. This is for my little sister, whose HAL refuses it initialise straight out of the box, was hoping a reinstall would help. But screw that I'm rather gonna RMA the thing this morning.

It wasn't external, I googled the problem, apparently I can happen if you have more than one drive.

How do you have an internal TB drive in an A110? Its a netbook.

Ah I see the confusion :) The A110 has no optical drive, so if you need to recover you must create a usb recovery solution. So I had to use my main pc. Although 1TB internal in the A110 would be pretty sweet :D
