Please help.

I have had sentech 256 for almost a year now. When I first got it... everything was bad. Then... as time went by it got better... till about two months ago. Till two months ago, I was downloading at full speeds, connected to the rosebank tower. NEver had problems.

But of late it has gotten bad, constant disconnections, 56 second lag on local IRC network. etc....

I want to get ADSL now that I can afford an uncapped account --- axxess looks like the best option.....

How can I go about cancelling my contract....

Is this even possible...

thanks in advance..

Call them and state the fact that you are limited (or contended in Sentech terms) to 4kb/sec PERMANENTLY on int traffic. You didn't sign up for a 10 gig "cap". They'll say "it's not a cap", but they call you as soon as you downloaded 10 gigs and complain about how your "abusing" the bandwidth(????) Ye, I'm raping a router somewhere at 4kb/sec.

Let me know what they say, I want to cancel as well.

I intend to

The problem is they are pretty sneaky with their contracts... so getting out of it is going to be rather difficult....

I am just busy amassing a case against them with all the problems...

Any idead for me to add?

Thanks yet again

Well I am most surprised... phoned tech support today to escalate complaint... and received great service.. I can hardly believe it....

The poeple were helpfull... trying to find an amicable solution....

well this is looking promising....

anyone who has gotten it right to cancell their contracts please let me know...

About 6 months ago there was a spate of massive cancellations. The subscription nunbers went from about 2500 to about 1800. So many many people cancelled. That was when Sentech had such bad press. A few have cancelled after that. So they aren't reading this portion of the forum anymore and they won't answer your question.

Take a few minutes and use the search facility and you'll find lots and lots of information on cancelling. Search for posts by LoneGunman.

FWIW the the best strategy to use for canceling is most probably the speed issue. For instance the MW128 is continually slower than a 56K dialup on international upload or download.

When you signed up for MyWi they were advertising a) high speed. b) always on. c) broadband zone. Now it is quite clear that "slower than dialup" is definitely not high speed nor is it anywhre close to any broadband zone. So your argument could be that they are not giving you what you are paying for. Be careful though, Sentech and it's band of highly paid lawyers have modified the meaning of "broadband" in SA so that it doesn't mean fast speed as it does in the (rest) of the civilized world. Here it just means always on.

Take your Sentech contract to any lawyer and watch them have a good laugh. It is one of the most intrusive contracts in existance. We are silly to have signed it, but it will not stand up in any court of law.

Tell Sentech they have two options: They can help you cancel, or you will simply stop your debit order, tear up their mickey-mouse contract and return their modem yourself (unless you bought one).

Getting out is easy for two reasons: A - They have not delivered their side of the contract and this makes it void, contracts must, by law, be mutually beneficial, Sentech's only benefits Sentech, not the user. B - Their contract is useless and unreasonable. Any magistrate would glady null it for you.

Sentech know this - they're the ones who wasted their money on some half-ass lawyer to draw it up for them.

I wrote a 'form' letter when I cancelled Sentech - thats tucked away somewhere here in the Sentech forum, that according to the various folks who also used it, it let them cancel Sentech without any problems at all.

I dont seem to be able to find it here - but Im not good with searching - perhaps someone still has it stored. Its just a basic 'blank' where you fill in your own particulars and send it, and thats that.

Sentech asked me to pay 75% of the remaining amount of the contract period.

So, just watch out! :)

nahh it's still around... i used it to cancel...

INteresting thing happened today...

a fool from there Support desk called to ask if my problems have been resolved. I told him that I was less than happy and he kept trying to get me to close the ticket.

Anyway, I then proceeded to ask him if they do throttle your downloads (every single time I have asked about this in the past I was informed that this is not the case and it must be a problem with my pc / signal / network etc.

Anyway he told me that this is the case, probably thinking that this will let me accept the poor download speeds and close the ticket. Well they have just given me the last bit of ammunition needed to kill the contract..

Thanks for all the help and thank you for the template cancellation doc....

much appreciated.

About to apply for ADSL.

Cancelling shouldn't really be a problem following the ASA findings. If anyone needs to cancel, PM me and i'll send you the findings from the ASA, which should be here somewhere. The advertising used by ST was deemed to be unfair so simply arguing that you were duped into signing their silly contract is gonna be enough. That Potgieter chick is also quite a tart cos she contacts the ASA and asks them to ask me to meet with her to discuss my issues. I have made 3 attempts so far and she never returns my calls. Im on ADSL anyway and am reselling MW to a moron who thinks he's getting a good deal (at a profit...) so I dont really care too much about cancelling. I'll use that trump card when my mate realises he stooged himself and stops paying me!
