Hello everyone,
This is a forum and I'm guessing this type of post has popped up many times before. I've done all the searching I can and I'm at the point of giving up.

There is no 3G coverage in the Mtunzini Natal area and therefor I have to use an Edge connection. Edge isn't one of the greatest connections but mine seems rather slow regardless. I've tried certain tweaks and nothing seems to help.

I use a Samsung Omnia i900 to connect my laptop and I do this by using the Internet Sharing software on the phone with the standard Vodacom WAP settings. On my laptop i have switched to using Open DNS for the DNS Servers.

Here's the results of the Vodacom speed test.

Ping: 435ms
Download Speed: 0.15Mbps
Upload Speed: 0.04Mbps

As I'm not really a professional at this kind of stuff, is this what I should be getting? Is there something that I can do to improve my Edge connection? any settings I can change?

Thanks in advance!

Try creating the conection on your laptop using the 'phone as a modem.

edit: EDGE maxes out at 236.8kb/s, so you you probably won't see any improvement.

I'm in the same boat, my local tower is not 3G enabled so also I'm stuck with EDGE. I think EDGE has a theoretical max throughput of 236 kbps (you're getting about 150kbps),but you're not likely to get too close to that. The figures you're getting are very similar to what I experience, probably the only improvement that you could hope for would be through judicious use of an antenna

Would you be able to give me the settings for this?
I'm running Windows 7. The connection is also very unstable. It keeps disconnecting at random times.... other times it's connected but it says no internet access?

Have you given MTN a go as well to see what their coverage is like?
