I was playing Hearthstone and then the PC simply froze. No response to the reset button or power button. I killed power to the machine and on starting it up again there is no response from the PC.

There is a red led that is suppose to come on for three or so seconds on the motherboard itself at BIOS post but that doesn't even happen.

This exact thing HAS happened before over a year ago with this machine. I used a backup motherboard for about a month and decided to put this one back again (after some cleaning) and then it worked.... now we are back to square one as of tonight.

Anything I should try? I have already taken apart the CPU/GPU coolers and heatsinks plus one on the MB itself and applied thermal compound on all three. I did clean the entire MB from desk etc.

did you change the CMOS battery?

I have never changed the cmos battery on the motherboard. Would that cause a posting problem?

After I cleaned the PC tonight it did boot once again and the BIOS said "new cpu deteceted" and wanted me to enter BIOS for configuration. It froze again just as it entered windows.

reseat your ram and any other peripheral cards installed.. still no go, remove everything other than bare essentials required to boot.. one stick of ram, cpu, power supply and onboard graphics (if available).. if its still not booting, you have narrowed it down to the single ram stick, power supply, motherboard or cpu.. substitute these one by one until you have found the problematic component..

I would also go with changing the PSU. Just to take a long shot, when you clean your components, after blowing out all the slots, take a pencil eraser to the contact strip on your ram and PCI devices and if you're using a pinless CPU, clean those contacts with an eraser too. Careful not to touch any IC's or resistors and don't work up enough friction to cause a static discharge.

If I had to clean all the seat connectors in a RAM slot I would just go out and buy a new damn board tbh. Holy shyte, people do allot of effort to look after their stuff

Lmao not on the slots, dumbass
The contact strips on the sticks themselves :D

EDIT: I just noticed this topic is a couple of days old. Any update from OP?

Take the motherboard out of the case and try again. There is maybe some electrical contact with the board and chassis.
