Hi there...

WHAT I HAVE:
I have the following scenario, i have an office with 3 pc`s, 3 users making use of 2 telkom landlines.

Currently i have 3 GE telephones that can operate two Telkom lines. ie. a single handset for both lines. (got them from Makro)

I also have people out in the field whom i require communication with.

WHAT I REALLY WANT:

I need the following in the office:
- Answering service
- Music / Message on hold
- The users must be able to answer any of the two lines in the office
- I also require headsets for each of the users.
- A cheaper / better way to communicate with the people in the field, instead of me having to call them from my telkom line on their mobile phone all the time.

So basically i am looking for a SOHO PABX system. Can anyone give me advice on how to accomplish this based on the scenario above ? I read one post about Asteriks... will this do ?

Basically, what you will need is
1. Asterisk installed on a PC
2. FXO/FXS card to plug your Telkom lines in. There a few options to consider, Digium, Sangoma or, generics. For Digium, try connection-telecom, or big5 for Sangoma cards.
3. Then get each service, IVR, music-on-hold, etc, configured. Go over to voip-info.org for some more info. You can even use SIP soft-phones, and a whole bunch of other cool stuff.
