Hi,

I want to download asterisk and start testing it on my home computer. That is the "home version" - in the installation notes the first thing it says is that it will erase the contents of my hard disk? Is that correct.

Before I go ahead and invest time in this is there anyone else out there that has gone this route - any suggestions?

Thanks
Francois

asterisk @ "home" is not an official part of the asterisk project, but it works well enough for most people, and is probably the simplest way forward. Yes, it will delete all the data that is currently on the hard drive.

Installing and playing with asterisk@home is a good place to start learning about asterisk.

Find a separate old computer, hook it up to your lan/broadband connection and load asterisk@home on it.

There is a useful Howto on the site to get you going too.

Enjoy!

While we are on the topic...

Sorry to hijack the thread, I don't suppose anyone knows the 1004hz 0db test phone number for Telkom? Trying to correctly set my RX gain for the ZAP channels.

Thanks.

You have three options:
1). Install asterisk@home. This is the easiest approach, but you will lose your harddrive contents.
2). Get the binary package (.rpm) of asterisk for your current Linux distro off a ftp server.
3). Download the source and compile it yourself.

Hi,

Can u suggest which is the best option. The last thing I want to do is start loosing data? Enough reason for me to run a mile from the home version.

Thnx

8321 has the best solution, get a old box and build a dedicated toy to fiddle with. A P2 with 128MB should do it
