Astrophotography

So the seeing hasn't been great the last couple of days, it's either cloudy or the winds gusting, guess that's the joy of living in Cape Town.

So I came up with this. This is a image of different fields of view.

Wide FOV.jpg

The main picture was takes with a Tamron SP 17-50mm f2.8 @ 28mm (f/8 15s ISO100)

The picture on the left is a stack of 104 subs x 20s (34mn 40s) taken with Nikon 70-300mm f4.5-5.6 @180mm (f5.6 20s ISO1600)

The image on the right is a Nikon 70-300mm f4.5-5.6 @300mm. This image shows 3 other fields of view.

Blue = 14" Celestron SCT (This is the one we have at work for science stuff  )
Green = My 4" Nexstar SE MAK with my D7000
Red = A Hubble image taken from The STScI Digitized Sky Survey, this is a 60 arcminutes x 60 arcminutes image (1 degree x 1 degree)

Taken tonight, Comet C/2011 L4 PANSTARRS

The pictures are not as sharp as I wanted because living in Cape Town we have this damn wind. And to night it was gusting. It was so strong it blew my scooter off its main stand

These were taken from near Llandudno.

The comet is bright enough to see with your naked eye.

Just a WOW thread. Dont stop now! I live in the Southern Berg and the sky is so clear you would be going crazy. Unfortunately I have neither the skill nor the equipment but I do keep a look out for UFOs...

Freshy, send me an invite, and I will gladly come and take some photos of the night sky in KZN :P

Thought I would start an astrophotography thread, so I can stop hijacking the "Stop what you're doing right now and take a photo" thread.

My equipment so far.
