Asus DSL-AC68U on VDSL - Experiences / Recommendations?

Hi - anyone using the Asus DSL-AC68U as a VDSl modem. I know it was problematic on older firmware versions but seems to have improved. Any experiences and recommendations out there?
 
I have one but I never gotten the vdsl part to work so just using it as a router. Let me if you guys do get the vdsl part to work.
 
I wont be able to give feedback on VDSL as I'm struggling to have my line switched to new MSAN.
 
I did order one last night - also figured I would use it as a router if the modem is no good - getting mine mid of next week. Will report back..
 
Been using mine on my 40mb Vdsl for 4 months now and has not given me a single problem, longest sync without any disconnects is a week, and the wireless coverage is the best out of any other router i have owned.

Only thing i'd recommend when you receive your Ac-68u is to update it immediately as the older firmware it comes with won't sync on WAN.

If you do just be careful new Asus stock firmware has the max wireless power output limit due to American standards, just grab the alternative version of merlin on smallnetbuilder.
 
Fantastic router with amazing features especially if you're a bit of a techie, the bandwidth monitoring :O. Looks good, wireless coverage is one of the best I've ever used and once telkom got their act together it had no problems connecting.

Like tuneme said first thing you need to do is upgrade the firmware. After that it's plain sailing. I use stock firmware and have no problems.
 
Are there any specific settings you need to get this router working on a VDSL line?

Basically the 'DSL Settings' page:
Annex mode, stability adjustment, bitswap, vdsl profile etc..
 
When I got VDSL I looked around for this as well. Once telkom actually switched me over to VDSL my router automatically chose the right settings. So just leave everything stock.

Make sure you've updated the firmware before hand. I'm currently sitting on "Firmware Version:3.0.0.4.376_2160" and it works fine. I know that out of the box the router didn't support VDSL in SA however with the update it does.
 
Good router in terms of wireless coverage and features. But I find the interface extremely slow when loading for the first time, anyone else have this issue? I have updated to the latest firmware.
 
Thought I'd just share this if anyone was wondering about the stability of these routers on VDSL

However, that seems to be the model without the integrated VDSL modem. I'm looking to purchase a killer VDSL modem/router since my current one (PACE 921VNX) is giving endless trouble (I have returned it for a replacement 3 times now).

I was hoping that the one on takealot had the integrated modem, since I'm really keen to get it with ebucks.
 
This might be an old topic, but I have had to replace my DSL-AC68U 3 times during the last year. They are extremely sensitive to power spikes / load shedding etc. The LAN ports also die one by one..nice piece of equipment when it works though, but after spending over 12k in one year, im done with this ASUS.

Thanks for the heads up. Has anyone else experienced these issues? VScheepers, what are you using now? Any high-end router recommendations? Im looking for something that I don't end up having to restart every day or two.

Thanks for the feedback, was thinking of buying the ASUS as my Pace 921 VNX is starting to give me problems and have to restart it quite often.
What are you looking to replace it with?

Currently I am using the Zyxel 1312....does its job but is very limited to what it can do. I am waiting for the TP-Link w9980 to be back in stock due to my need for VPN connections. I will then use a AC1900 router for the wifi portion....it sucks that decent VDSL routers are so limited in SA.
