Hi

I was thinking of buying this netbook, but i have a few questions. Maybe someone on this forum can help.
Does anyone know which linux distro comes on this thing?
It only has a 2gb HDD. Will a linux+openoffice installation fit on it?
Will a hauweii E220 modem work on it?

Hi jw

The linux distro is Xandros.

It comes out with linux and openoffice installed (and a number of other apps). Not sure how much space is free (I had the 4gb), but it is easy to increase with a SD card.

The E220 works fine.

Hi

The Eee 700 is a very nice Netbook, it uses Linux Xandros, it comes with OpenOffice, Internet radio, Skype, igoogle, google docs, messenger, wikipedia, hotmail, gmail, AOL, yahoo, multimedia player, games, and other useful applications.

It works very well with E220 (just make sure it's the latest release, that works with Linux). It also work fine with phone connected as a modem via a serial cable or using Bluetooth. Since the Eee 700 does not have bluetooth you can use a bluetooth dongle and connect via your phone. The easiest connection is the serial cable though.

I hope you will enjoy your Eee experience and push the Netbook takeover to higher highs.

Almost forgot:

The memory upgrade is very simple, just get an SD of your choice (64GB, 32GB, 16Gb or lesser) put it in the card reader slot. It should detected automatically in the work tab, you can format it in the Settings tab>>Utility if it needs be.

I used an Axiz 32GB SD card on mine and works flawlessly all the time. My friend uses a Eee 4GB surf black, he had to format his Kingstone 16GB SD before it could work properly in his machine. Hope you'll enjoy.

Hi Guys being struggling to get a Huawei K3520 on this laptop so far iv got the e220 and V172 to work on this machine however i am not getting it write, i have looked at other sources for the answer but other explanations just seem mind boggling please can someone assist me. I so far understand that the main problem is that there is a memory card reader on this device and that may be causing the difficulty? Other names for the K3520 include Huawei E169 Stick or Pen 3520….

Thanks for the info.

Another thing that bugs me is the limited writes lifespan on solid state drives. How does linux compare with windows in this department?
I suspect most of the operating system operational writes happens in the page file.(guessing)
And that linux creates a seperate partition for that (guessing)
Is it possible to move that partition to an sd card?
