ASUS Eee Pad transformer

hehe, it's charging now, just wanted to make sure it worked, also downloaded 3.1 but I need battery juice to flash the update.

The keyboard dock is very nice though.

720p video wasn't smooth but I will try again after 3.1

very chuffed :)

edit: I'm a bit concerned that it was shipped with 0% battery life, I thought LiPo batteries should be stored around 40%-50%?

Woooohoooo!!!! Finally...I love my TF. Im sitting in Zambia at the Intercontinental and their interwebs sucks donkey balls. Using my phone as a hotspot and its working like a dream.

Have to agree. I also dig the dock. You should see how amazed the Zambians are. My toy is a hit in SA and ZM. Its hilarious how all my mates salivate over the keyboard tablet combintation.

My KB had some juice but not much. Not sure why yours wouldnt have any.

Im actually very happy for you. Its been a long time coming.

Thanks mate!

Yeh it has been a long time coming...

I meant to say the tablet itself had no juice when I got it, not sure about the kb dock.

Very impressed with WebAntics.

Yesss finally my Transformer can erm transform... just got my Keyboard Dock. Overall I must say the complete unit weighs a tad more than I was expecting but not that its a deterrent and having 16 hours of continuous up-time is a bonus anyway.

Yes it picks up my 500 gig USB HD
No it doesn't pick up my Black Cell C speed stick(Will do some hacking later, now to wait for it to charge 1st)

Awesome stuff, yeh I was impressed with the weight of both the tablet and the kb dock! They both feel nice & solid, I suppose a battery that size will inevitably have some weight on it.

I love how you can type on the KB dock as if it feels like you've been typing on it for years, anyone else get that feeling? I guess they just stuck with the standard there which is awesome. I also love all the Android shortcuts!!

It is logical that the speed stick wouldn't work, it has drivers specifically for windows and maybe mac but not android, I have a feeling drivers may come though, at some stage. I have wifi access at home and work and I can make my HTC Desire a hotspot so the 3G capability wasn't a criteria for me.

As I presumed, the video capabilities leave a lot to be desired.

The stock player is almost useless, couldn't get it to play anything and I have all sorts of formats, the MP4's opened but every MP4 I had played x4 fast-forward mode.

I then installed Mobi, QQ, Rock players and had limited success, I got a 720p video to run smoothly, at least I could then open AVI's

I could open 1080p video's but they were not 100% smooth.

Obviously I did these tests with 3.1

Oh well, lets hope they bring updates to fix it then?

On another note, I have no bleed, my speakers are also fine, maybe the right is playing 5-10% louder but I feel lucky that it's not as bad as what I've heard.

USB doesn't need drivers when they stick to a standard, drivers is a windows issue. As for support on Android, you will find that they did not include the USB module from the Linux kernel that does work. This is not an issue as ASUS was kind enough to post the Source on the site so would not be to hard to get the righ module compiled for ARM to be able to pick up and use it. I suspect the omission was to limit the size of the kernel as well as promoting the 3G models when they come out.

What format is your movies in as the 1080p TS rip I used for testing as well as my mkv's did not have any stutter when playing movies with the default player?

I use Handbrake to rip my dvd's and for that the playback was superb. Also used DLNA with a Windows PC and had no issues streaming either.

I have mostly MKV 1080p videos that dont seem to open on the default player, and when some of the MP4 files do open they take tremendously long to open.

I like Handbreak, can you please tell me what settings you used?

Have you tried VPlayer or MoboPlayer?

Default, I did not change a thing, what Class SD's are you using?

Found the handbrake settings to use, will encode a few during work and try when I get home.

Start with the Regular/Normal Preset
Container: MP4 File
On the Video tab, choose:
Video Codec: H.264
Constant Quality: RF 24 (Lower number is better quality but higher file size, I wouldn't suggest going lower than 20 in this case)
On the audio tab change the Mixdown to "Stereo", bitrate 160
On the Advanced Tab:
Maximum B-Frames: 0
Uncheck "CABAC Entropy Coding"
Uncheck "8x8 Transform"
Uncheck "Weighted P-Frames"

After those changes, you can save these by clicking on Presets -> Save Preset and name it something like "Transformer". These settings work for the Xoom as well.

Asus transformer closing in on iPad2

Asustek’s CEO Jerry Shen said the company will ship 300,000 ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Tablets in June alone. This likely tops all their competitors and is only next in line to the iPad 2.
Statistics provided by PC retailers show that suppliers have reduced their shipment goals, whereas the demand for the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer remains strong. The Transformer is a tablet that can dock into a full QWERTY keyboard and “transform” into a netbook.
Shen pointed out further that the company shipped 400,000 Transformer units in April and May, a figure that far exceeded their expectation of 300,000 systems for the second quarter.
He went on to say that the tablet will bring in $86.7-103 million, which accounts for nearly 10% of the company’s total revenue for June. He also estimated demand from European markets and mainland China would increase in the third quarter even though they have been weak in the second quarter.
The company is already working on a second generation ASUS Eee Pad Transformer, which it says will feature a slimmer design. The release date is scheduled for the fourth quarter, around the Christmas holiday season

I hope the new Transformer fits into the current keyboard docks, though by saying the new tablet will feature a slimmer design, I don't expect it too :(

Based on the pictures I have seen I highly dought it will. There is also rumors that ASUS is working on a transformer to work with Windows 8.

Imagine a dual boot. Android and windows 8 and enough power and memory to handle them both.....drooooool

LOL, I just got back from coffee shop, had a iPad 2 user drool over the Eee Pad, esp when I copied a Mov^b^b^b file to another PC while I demo'ing some features.

Yeah Windows 8 dual boot would be cool, busy hacking the code someone used to run Ubuntu on Samsung 10.1

Isn't it great when they realize the ipad sucks comparitively ;)

This is not good, you have no way of knowing how much charge is on the keyboard dock :(

Only has one indicator LED thats red while charging and green when done.
