ASUS Eee Pad transformer

My bro just got the eee pad yesterday, and he can't get it to connect to any wifi networks (he has tried two). I see that others have had a wifi instability issue. The tablet is still on 3.1. Seeing as i'm tec support for the family, i'm trying to get everything I need to fix the problem when I do get my hands on the tablet.

I'm guessing my only recourse here is to update. I'm guessing I have to do a manual upadate. Once I have downloaded the firmware from the Asus site will I have to flash it or is there a PC Suite to push the update.

Updating the tablets OS is not going to help. The only complaints re WiFi is related to routers.

I have a feeling your problem is either the user or the WiFi has a hardware problem.

Hmmm. I'm not sure, since I don't have access to the device yet. But i'm assuming he doesn't have the same router at home and at work. Also he has a sensation and that connects fine. But I have the same router so when I get the tab i'll check it out. My router firmware is the latest so i'm sure I can rule that out. Linksys WAG120N

If the update doesn't work, I'm gonna push for a refund. Think webantics.

Ok. So just tested the eee pad on my network.Same deal. I remember this issue on the original galaxy - in that case a factory reset solved the problem, and the problem was spontaneous.

It can't be a router issue, since with WiFi tethering to my Desire the same thing happens.

I'm thinking its a hardware issue. Bad batch?

Anyway, I'm going for a returnsies, unless google shows me a fix.

Thought I'd see if the sleep policy had anything to do with it. So I switched from "Never" to one of the other ones, and now it connects fine. I'm not sure if that was coincidental since switching back to never doesn't recreate the problem.

Anyone else want to venture a try?

Got my GF the SGS2 for her birthday.

Was quite impressed at it's camera and video footage capabilities.

Was quite dissapointed when I found out my Transformer couldn't play the videos captured by the SGS2.

Tried Dice; Mobo; QQ & Rock players with no luck. Dice player was unable to use hardware acceleration so maybe a few updates from Dice and/or Honeycomb could make more codecs run on full hardware acceleration & run flawlessly.

The SGS2 takes 1080p video I think using X264 mp4. Obviously the SGS2 plays back it's own videos flawlessly but my TF lagged :(

I hope this gets fixed or I'm upgrading to the Transformer 2. I have more faith in quad (quin?) core.

I'll probably sell my current TF.

On quadrant the SGS2 gets over 3000 points, the TF gets substanctially lower but I think this could be a problem with Quadrant compatiblity issues with Honeycomb &/or Tegra2.

I am also looking at getting the Eee 2.

Don't get me wrong the Eee pad was grate, and I did not regret my purchase at all. I just want the added oomf oh and the 2 looks super sexy. As for selling my old one I have another use for it... Busy redoing my kitchen and it will be build into the cupboards to become a touchscreen PC/TV.

Nice!

I agree with you, the TF1 is still very good and I'll probably have many uses for it (like mounting it in my car when I find a practical method, I might try one of those floor / bolt mounts)

The TF2 looks so awesome and will have way more power I think it's 5X?

But the TF1 definitely paved the way and set some standards.

I also cant regret buying it, especially knowing that it was very decently priced.

Unlike the new iPhone 4S which is between R10 000 and R15 000 depending on which model you want :D and there is currently afaik now contract option.

Well to be honest its more than enough.

My Eee last me about 3 to 4 days on a single charge. The 8 hours is 8 hours of constant use.

Indeed. I used to very rarely charge my iPad. I just wish the device had USB without the dock. HDMI is not such a biggie.

So far the most I've got out of my TF is about a week, I've noticed that keeping your wifi on unnecessarily seriously chomps up your battery.

Now I turn it off whenever I'm not accessing the interwebs, hail the Asus Gods for adding a Wifi on / off button on the dock!!

I somehow booted my TF in safe mode this morning. Been playing on the keyboard while booting up... Didn't know it had a safe mode. Any idea what it does?

You get into safe mode when pressing volume down while powering Up.

Normally used for recovery, factory resets.
