O.O

Ok sorry did not know your network knowledge was that limited.
Erm maybe this is not the best advice for you.... stick to DHCP, not insulting just saying its a bit more complicated than explaining in a simple post on what numbers and when.

If you truly wanna know, you can Google IP Address(ipv4) and read up on it Pages like http://www.hildrum.com/IPAddress.htm might help.

Yes just the last part. But no, not to 999.

Perhaps install something like fing on your phone where you are getting a DHCP address.
It should show you the IP range. Then pick a IP in that range that that is not allocated to anything else. You can only use IPs from 1-254.

no problem...I know I'm useless at networking stuff. From my knowledge that last 3 digits are what change on different pc's on the same network.

Thanks

I am right now experiencing the same issue.I changed my setting to a static IP and entered an IP in the range of the router.
I can browse network files and my TF says I'm connected to the network but the wifi indicator is grey not blue and I can't ocnnet to the internet.
If I change to DHCP, I constantly get the "obtaining IP address" issue.
This is also happening with another device on the same network.

Check that you have the correct Gateway and DNS IPs entered.

I used the router address for the Gateway- is that correct
192.168.1.254

Where do I get the correct DNS Ip's

Ok finally got it working with a static IP.
used the default gateway address for DNS servers as well.

^^ yes try to set both to the IP of the router, double check the IP on your phone...

Cool, so my theory was correct in thinking that the problem was only because it failed to get an ip address. This probibly has to do with mac address issues if you ask me but one can only speculate till you have the actual equipment or encounter the same problem

As for the DNS address, most of the time the default router should work else its always good to keep OpenDNS ip's on hand.
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
I use them all the time even on my normal DSL connection, but mostly because of the extra protection they have against malicious content + the ability to block porn if needed.

ok so setting it as a static ip worked for an hour then it stopped...
if it a mac <?> issue how do i solve that? and i'm still stumped as to why this suddenly happened.

I would guess it stopped because lease expired or was issued to someone else.

Mac issue depends if it is one, or if it is, which one. Hell for all we know your tablet doesn't like the router and has nothing to do with hardware Mac address.

don't think it's the tablet issue cos my windows mobile phone is doing the same thing today on this router

let me know if you come right
which version are you on? .24? im on .24 and also want to root at some stage
so let me know how it goes

Hey guys, I am finally looking to root my TF101 but would like to retain over the air updates.

I came across this and it seems to be quite strait forward:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1689193&highlight=root+ics

Can anyone confirm the flowing:

Your data stays intact and OTA functionality is not lost. No more need to downgrade to get root.

/Didn't bring my cable to work so cant do this now

will let you know if/when I do it.

/I actually just spotted you on XDA in the Desire S OTA ICS thread, small world :D

Success!

Done Rooting with the above thread, very simple. Verified root access.

I needed to install adb-drivers manually. Other than that it went without a snag.

Time will tell if I am still able to do OTA update.
