I received my EEE PC on Friday and it came with 2 discs. They are some Asus drivers etc. My question is should I have also received a Windows XP Home disc as well? It came pre installed but I want to get rid of it to try out the different Linux OS's and after seeing how that works out then I can re-install XP Home Edition.

Would I get the XP disc from the people I bought it from or from Asus?

nope just 2 driver cd's from Asus. No OS image on the disc's or the harddrive. 4 gig harddrive, not much to hide

You bought the EEE701 right?
If so then it comes with Linux and not Windows. The one disc is a Linux disc while the other is drivers for Win XP. You need a copy of Windows are preferably an external CD Drive.

anyways after testing Xandros you will see there is absolutely no reason to go back to winblows. Everything just works!

-1 Depends on what you do with it. I initially enjoyed the Linux OS - although fairly savvy for a non-IT person it was my first experience with Linux.

Until, that is, you start to tinker. Getting bluetooth to work with my phone was a nightmare. I also have a special Nedbank USB token drive needed for internet banking. That didn't work. So I installed Windows XP. Worked perfectly, no problems ever since.

There's plenty of guides on the net on how to install Windows from a USB drive.

BTW I've now upgraded to the eee PC 900HA - Windows + 160gB HDD. Getting it on Wednesday :D:D:D

Ok I found what looks like an image on Windows on one of these Asus support discs. But it's not exactly a straight install. It say's recovery. Oh well time to format the EEE PC and start again

I think you put the discs in and press F2 when booting for recovery. Think being the operative term
