Hi

I am in the process of getting a new laptop.

I am finding the Asus Range more affordable with higher specs than Dell.

Anyone have any experience with the laptops? With Support as well?
Reliability, Build Quality, Software Issues etc.

This is what I'm looking at: http://www.evetech.co.za/asus-fx550-series-gaming-laptop-deals/l/023.aspx

I want the i7 8gb model for 13999. Is the price good? I Dont know much about pricing only compared to the usual retailers such as Dion Wired, Incredible and the rest of the usual ones.

Please comment if you have any input, it wiill be appreciated.

Thanks

I've got an asus RoG.

Surprisingly durable...spilled half a bowl of soup on mine (while it was on)...dried it out for a day & all keys still work fine. Speaker is a bit sketchy since but I use headphones anyway.

I dislike the fact that it doesn't have a mic in though.

Software issues...fine except something not quite right with the realtek drivers...volume creeps up every time you stop/start audio. So I end up adjusting audio like 1 or twice per hour.

Build quality...seems good. No issues thus far (~1 year)

ASUS FX has no IPS panel , hard drive is only 5400 rpm instead of 7200 and 8gb on board memory ...

Does it have slots for SSD upgrade ?

Also have an ASUS RoG about a year old

Build quality good .... no issues ..... does what it has to quite efficiently

Go for Dell. Their 3 year onsite warranty alone is worth it. We sell A LOT of Dell laptops to companies that abuse them. Very few failure but when they break, Dell repairs it onsite the next day.

The specs that I want are extremely pricey on a Dell. Dell is my first choice but I'm not happy with the price and configs. Like this one it doesn't have FHD resolution, only 1 USB 3.0 which is bad for me, and it has a bad entry level GPU.

After this model the high end range jumps sky high with the price unfortunately.

I've had an Asus X series since 2014. Great value for the price (i7, graphics card, and 8GB RAM for under R10,000).

The only thing that's off-putting is that the hinge is really stiff so if you try to open it up one-handed, the bottom will come up together with the screen, and then slam back down into the desk. You have to hold the bottom down with one hand while lifting the screen with the other.

Have an Asus RoG as well. Few issues here and there. Nothing major. Would recommend.
