Asus Notebooks

I don't even look at another brand.
Asus FTW. That thing looks awesome, you will not be sorry.

Thanks for the feedback! Good to hear! I can get it for just under R15k, which I think is VERY reasonable.

Yeah sorry dude. Can't give you more subjective examples of people using Asus notebooks, apparently most SAfricans don't bother with the brand (maybe because you only ever see them at online stores?), I just know mine hasn't skipped a beat ever since I bought it 2.5 years ago and according to a lot of online research Asus is one of the most reliable brands out there when it comes to notebooks.

Just make sure to blow out the fans every year or so and you shouldn't have issues (yeah, a LOT of people pi** and moan when their notebooks crap after two or more years, but hey, they need at least a little love now and then :)

They're my favorite company when it comes to innovation and quality these days.

Colleague had one and the keyboard and battery needed to be replaced.

Lenovo Thinkpads FTW!

I currently have 3 ASUS notebooks, 1 from over 4 years ago and it still works just fine. That said though, I also have a couple of HP notebooks that are also rock solid.

Seriously?
Lenovo R61i 8 out of 10 have had their screen fail.
Lenovo SL400 ALL OF THEM had their left hinge break.
Lenovo SL510 half of them had their LCD backlights fail.

I've heard of issues with the ThinkPad's screen as well.

Thanks guys, majority rules, think I'm gonna go for it. Pity that it's quite new, so no official reviews out yet, but I reckon real world performance matters more.

Nice Notebook, but good luck finding a replacement battery if ever you need one though ;)

Asus notebooks also have nice warranties.
Almost all of them come with a collect and repair service.

I have been using my G73jh for 2 years and its still going strong. My wife's old F5R is also still going strong, even after my dad got hold of it for a year.
