Seems like a phone and pad that docks onto one another. The phone is the heart (processing + telecoms) and the pad just a large touchscreen for pad-like functionality. Not sure. If so, Asus is in my mind on the right track here. The screens on smartphones are to small but they have all the power to drive a companion larger screen device. I believe phone + pad is the way to go. Will know tomorrow.

I think Asus seems to be moving in the right direction.

Asus Eee Pad = Tablet + keyboard dock = Netbook
Asus PadPhone = Phone thats slides into a dock = Tablet
Asus Eee Slider = Tablet that has a keyboard thats slides out like a qwerty phone

It just seems that someone in the company is actully using his head and getting new ideas not just the tab is a tab is a tab approach

i'm sorry, but why would I want to plug my phone into it every time I wanna use it?

I like the idea of one device that tranforms into two ... and two that transforms into one. I buy one and get the benefits of both systems. Makes a lot of sense to me. Since using an iPad I realised where all this is going and I like it. I like where Asus is going (if I understand this correctly). But will we ever see it in SA?

I do think we will get them, they are in the country.

Asus seems to be doing something right as its the only Android tablet that is flying off the shelves faster than people can get stock.

Oh and my transformer is on order already.

Damn I just started a thread in the Android section, never saw this one. I assume this will run Android, makes the most sense to me.
Can't wait for more info on this, might even sell my Galaxy S2 without opening the box if it's good enough and comes out soon.

This will be nice if you go travelling and want to use a bigger screen for photos, emails, etc.

Really hope the dumb terminal/laptop/dock/whatever you want to call it, has a big hard drive to copy my stuff to.

Might wait a bit longer for the quad-core phones, then you won't need a seperate notebook anymore.

With the new advancements in cloud computing, I recon you would be able to get away with a Eee Pad transformer easy, well when the 3G models starts shipping. Most ERP systems today include web access modules as well for the traveler to use when they are not in front of their desks. If you really have to you could get Citrix Presentation server and install Citrix Receiver on the device and with keyboard and mouse support it will do the job as normal.

For the El cheapo or home user you can always go remote desktop + DynDNS

Elimentals, the power of the Padfone lies in the fact that you buy one device - on one contract for example - and get a full functional phone and pad. There is a place for this. I don't like locking the phone inside the device and was hoping the end product was more a case of the phone clipping onto the pad (quick and easy lock and release). I'm sure other manufacturers will follow with a more practical design but Asus is on the right track here for sure. Phone + Pad is the way forward, the question is just who's going to do it best. I'm sure Apple has got something similar up their sleeves. I expect iPhone 6 and iPad 3 to be moving in this direction, called the iPhad ... LOL!
