Asus Rog Ally

Lossless Scaling new update brings LSFFG 3.0 Works wonders on my ally especially with Marvel Rivals.

Happy anniversary, LSFG!

LSFG 3 is built on a new, efficient architecture that introduces significant improvements in quality, performance, and latency.

Key improvements include:
  • Better quality:
Reduced flickering and border artifacts, with noticeable enhancements in motion clarity and overall smoothness.

  • Lower GPU load:
A 40% reduction for X2 mode compared to LSFG 2 (non-performance mode). Over 45% reduction for multipliers above X2 compared to LSFG 2 (non-performance mode).
The "Resolution Scale" feature remains an excellent way to further reduce GPU load. For instance, setting it to 90% roughly aligns with the LSFG 2 "Performance" mode.

  • Improved latency:
Latency testing with the OSLTT tool (at 40 base FPS, X2) shows approximately 24% better end-to-end latency compared to LSFG 2.

  • Unlocked multiplier:
LSFG 3 also introduces an unlocked multiplier, now capped at X20. While this offers greater flexibility, the following recommendations apply for optimal results:

Base framerate: A minimum of 30 FPS is required (40 FPS or higher is preferred, with 60 FPS being ideal) at 1080p.
For best overall experience, locking the game framerate is recommended. This helps to avoid 100% GPU load (reducing its impact on latency) and ensures smoother framepacing.
For higher resolution use at higher than recommended framerates or use the "Resolution Scale" option to downscale input to 1080p:
For 1440p, set it to 75%.
For 4K, set it to 50%.

Higher multipliers (e.g., X5 or above) are best suited for high refresh rate setups, such as:

    48 FPS × X5 for 240Hz.
    60 FPS × X6 for 360Hz.
    60 FPS × X8 for 480Hz.
How do you go about using this?

My Ally just stopped charging. I tried different chargers and cables. It's either the USB c port or some other issue.

I tried some suggested solutions but to no avail. It seems to be a common issue on reddit.
Even disconnected the battery for a full powercycle. No power left in the battery at the moment so this handheld is dead.

Anybody else had an issue before?
Did you perhaps leave the system in sleep mode? I had that once when the battery was drained drained. Left it plugged in for a couple of hours and it started charging.

Nope, not at all. It was Powered on the last time I used it.

When the battery still had power, I plugged it into the charger when it was around 60%. The orange charging light never came on. And it eventually just drained to 0, unable to charge. It's like there's no power coming through.

Some guys on reddit said they had to return for replacement/repair. Motherboard was replaced.
I'm out of warrantee, so this will be costly to do

Ah crap that does sound like a hardware issue :-( I'm not sure on the repairs here in SA.

One last thing, try keeping it plugged in for awhile without turning it on.

Because the orange light does not lit up, no charging is happening :-(
Even have it plugged into the original charger since my initial post about the problem, still nothing.

If repair costs are more than 30% of my purchase price of R16k then I wont bother to repair, this will become an expensive doorstop.

Mine didn't either when it went to sleep, but I just left it plugged in with the original charger and about 2 hours later the orange light came on. Especially if the battery is dead dead.

Yes keep it plugged in to the stock charger. Maybe it will work.

An update from my dead Ally;

Had it at a local laptop repair specialist , they found dead parts on the motherboard, this was replaced which did not fix the issue.

Last resort is to take it to Pinnacle for the motherboard replacement as a suggested and working solution by many Reddit posts.. Being out of warantee that won't come cheap so decided to rather write this off.

Resorted to selling it for spares rather.

Waiting to see what's released later this year, not taking up the Ally X.

Did they happen to tell you what dead parts on the motherboard?

Going to try it out this time and return the Ally?

No I'm still happy with my ROG Ally that I bought again for R8999 which btw is discontinued. Pinnacle gave notice to suppliers that the device has been discontinued and major retailors are no longer selling it. As we all know by now the new device is the Ally X but Makro is retailing that at R18k o_O

When my ROG died at about 10 months (so under warranty), Pinnacle replaced the mobo and the SSD. It was locking up, display was getting corrupted at times and at one stage would not boot up. I had to plug it in for a while before it rebooted and doing a restore led to more issues.

I don't use it much now. But I suspect that running Genshin Impact in high setting at 60fps at 1080p overheated something and damaged something. It was getting quite warm despite the maxed out fans. It was also not the SD card reader. I ran it at full fan speed and did not Turbo it but had it running at very high watts on the CPU and GPU, while plugged in. I think the ROG's cooling sucks. It's their Mk1 version so they're still learning.
