Asus Rog Ally

No I'm still happy with my ROG Ally that I bought again for R8999 which btw is discontinued. Pinnacle gave notice to suppliers that the device has been discontinued and major retailors are no longer selling it. As we all know by now the new device is the Ally X but Makro is retailing that at R18k o_O

Ally X is not worth the hassle. Yes there is more battery and there is more RAM but otherwise it's the same GPU and CPU.

When my ROG died at about 10 months (so under warranty), Pinnacle replaced the mobo and the SSD. It was locking up, display was getting corrupted at times and at one stage would not boot up. I had to plug it in for a while before it rebooted and doing a restore led to more issues.

I don't use it much now. But I suspect that running Genshin Impact in high setting at 60fps at 1080p overheated something and damaged something. It was getting quite warm despite the maxed out fans. It was also not the SD card reader. I ran it at full fan speed and did not Turbo it but had it running at very high watts on the CPU and GPU, while plugged in. I think the ROG's cooling sucks. It's their Mk1 version so they're still learning.

They fixed yours? Damn for me when I burned my sd and slot they just gave my money back Pinnacle didn't even bother fixing it.

Exactly. Same Z1 Extreme so no thank you not at R18k that is crazy

My SD didn't burn. My mobo fried for some reason. They fixed the mobo as it was still under warranty.

Makes sense it'll be 2 years old soon

Also improved cooling, replaced the graphics port with usb 3.2 type c port, made the ssd full sized and it's black :)

Decided to put a small insulation patch over sd slot just to see if it helps.

Had to loosen then heatsink just to find the cooling paste so dry I had to scrape it off the cooler and cpu. So dry it crumbled to dust.

How? I bought it the 9th of Dec last year.

Interesting should check mine out as well. I'll need to get more thermal paste though.

Good idea. It's probably dry. It was surprisingly easy. Back cover off and then 4 screws on the heatsink. No need to remove the fans.

Took it apart, cleaned the fans and did some dusting and blowing, didn't remove the heat sink as reading the thermal paste used is apparently not normal.
My temps have gotten better since just doing some basic maintenance.

How is it? Did you have the original? I still use mine quite a bit
On its way still :)

Ordered my screen guard and tpu cover so long.

I don’t have the time to sit in front of my gaming laptop anymore. I tend to play more handheld consoles like on the weekend so I’m hoping this fills that void.

Honestly that cover is going to cause more issues than it worth, cause it seems to block airflow, well on the original it did. Screen guard hmmm, my son has one on his, I've been barebacking mine since launch :-)

Holy ****, I’m impressed how much this monster can push out. DDR 5 ram makes a whole lot of difference. Everything runs flawlessly.

Only problem is the TPU is kak, have to get a better one.
