19-year-old South Africansprint sensation Bayanda Walaza turned down full scholarship offers from three USA
Universities.
Instead, he has chosen to stay and study at Tshwane University of Technology in Pretoria, staying close to his longtime coach Thabo Matebedi—the man who helped him become a World Champion and an Olympic Medalist!
At just 18, Bayanda made history as the youngest South African Olympic medalist since 1992, winning silver in the 4x100m relay at the Paris 2024 Olympics. He also dominated the 100m race at the 2024 World Athletics U20 Championships, claiming gold with a time of 10.19 seconds!
Now, as the world’s fastest Under-20 sprinter, he’s proving that you don’t have to leave home to chase greatness!
