Hi There

Problem is the following

I have a ATI Radeon 256Mb AGP Card installed on a MSI socket 478 P4 Motherboard...all went well until the point when I wanted to install the driver..

The ATI setup reports that it does not find any compatible graphics hardware..

I've tried 4 different version from the ATI site...The card brand is Palit and their driver section only reverts me back to the ATI site...

Device manager sees the following... Video Controller and Video Controller (VGA Compatible)...

So err....what now?

What radeon is it exactly? With ATI it seems you have to download more specific driver ranges than with nvidia (one more reason ATI sucks).

Palit Radeon 9550 256Mb AGP x8

p.s. went to MSI liveupdate just for the fun of it...and it does tell me that I have a ATI card in my system..but can't provide driver

Angstrom's idea is good. Try the Omega Drivers as well.

They're based on the normal Catalyst drivers but have been tweaked differently. The guy who develops these modified drivers also used to work for ATi.

Otherwise, try get the Catalyst 7.4 drivers from ATi/AMD's site. What OS are you running? And do you have any service packs installed?

Omega Drivers does not detect the card and neither does the Drivers on the ATI website

Ok, that's odd. And can you run any games?

What operating system do you have installed? ie: what version of Windows?

Have you had any other graphics card drivers installed on this PC before, or is it a 'clean install'?

No Drivers = No Games

Windows XP Pro SP2 Clean Install

...I just think the card is messed...will post later with the test results

Are you sure, sure, sure the card is still in your PC? Isn't any chance that a technician/person could've swapped it out?

Update

Any install CD that came with the card?
On some adapters you need to install the software on the CD, else the driver fails to be detected...

Jip....tried that....Catalyst 6.9 or something on the disc...did not work

lol...imagine that :D

anywayz...here's the result

Tested the 9550 in another machine....detected fine....installed fine
popped it back into the problem pc....detected fine...but drivers did not install as mentioned.

Popped in a 9250 in the problem pc ... installed fine + drivers....
So I just swopped the MSI board with a Gigabyte one and everythings hunki dori... seems like that MSI model board does not like or is incompatible with the Palit 9550 model....weird...but hey it's pc's.... these stupid things happen

and it continues.....

Okay...some other weird thing....

The radeon 9250 at work does the same (can't install driver) ..the latest driver that supports this card according to ati.com is the Catalyst 6.11....which did not work...so we tried 6.7, 6.10, and 6.9 .....nothing...

just the usual "Setup could not find any compatible hardware" ....but... We decided to install 5.7 ... and it works...
