ATNS explains plan to fix air traffic controller shortage

The Air Traffic Navigation Services (ATNS) has detailed ongoing interventions to resolve a dire shortage of air traffic controllers in South Africa and failures to adhere to important flight instrument procedure requirements.

In the past few months, media reports and a column in Sunday Times by Plane Talking managing director Linden Birns have highlighted the significant problems.
 
Just wondering whether BBBEEE is maybe rearing it's ugly head, also, whatever happened about the ATC learjet that should be used for runway calibration, and was being joyridden and crashed somewhere in the cape.. Mossel Bay or George I think.. Has it been replaced yet?

Affirmative action, mismanagement, incompetence, lowering standards. The usual.

 
I inquired about becoming an ATC controller after school, which is now many years ago.

Much like one or two other areas of interest that I enquired about as an eager, enthusiastic youngster, the first question I was asked was "what colour is your skin"?

My pigmentation, or relative lack thereof, has put paid to a number of opportunities in my time.

It prevented me from winning a national bursary competition (I had an "off the record" phone call to advise me as such), has steered me away from investing in starting business in this country several times, and has altered where and what I contribute my time, energy, and resources into.

I stopped caring about this country a long time ago.

Shortage or not, the ATNS capacity problem has existed for many years already. It's subject to the same mismanagement, corruption, ineptitude, and racial profiling as every other state-managed enterprise in this forsaken 'hole of a country.

Problem is the bozofication of the organisation. Because of race government directives, they put people in management who are not fit for the jobs, but fill a quota. Those people will not want to hire someone more qualified than they are.

These bloodsuckers went and had a recruitment drive when I was in 4th year and said they were looking for engineers for their graduate developer program. So I applied, sent through all my academic results (which were very good in 4th year), and got completely ghosted.

There is some schadenfreude on my part tbh when they say they don't have enough experienced people.

If your "plan" does not involve getting rid of racial employment garbage then please just STFU. So many experienced white ATC's working abroad now because of your pathetic inferior stance. Good on them and good riddance to you cnuts!
