Howdy,

Thought I'd share my experience with my 4870.

Using the latest Ati Tray Tools: (No BIOS flashing or warranty/guarantee voiding stuff)

2D: 500/400 (probably go even lower on the ram to save more W, as with the 4850, it's the ram that counts for performance AND power saving)

For instance: taking core down to 160, results in a 1W power saving, whereas taking ram down really low can save you 30W+.

Auto Fan Table:
Deg. - Fan %

0 - 26 (26 is virtually inaudible, 28 is slightly noticible if you're listening)
60 - 28
64 - 30
68 - 32
72 - 34
75 - 36
80 - 38
84 - 40

Result: Idles at +/- 55 on an averagely hot summer day.
Load at +/- 75 (rarely breaches 80, as in I haven't seen it go that high, but I'm sure it might on a very hot day)

So the fan stays at 36% or less during even the most hectic session, and if you have your volume even moderately prominent, you won't notice the cards fan.

In fact, the fan on my Hyper TX2 is still the loudest thing in my case, even at that stage.

I believe with the latest version of ATT you can lower idle voltage too, for further power saving.
