Hi guys,

A lot of us are getting fed up with all the kark that Vodacom are sending our way, ads, promotions, specials etc; Some of us have been with VC for years only to be treated like we're on some sort of Adware/Nagware based service. I've phoned their call center, sms'd the STOP messages etc; and the last one was yesturday, phoning the call center and griping and I *thinK* I got through to them but I'm not holding my breath.

Some of these messages don't even have the opt out information.

I want to lodge a complaint, or at lease get something going, So I'd like to get some feedback from users to pass on. What I personally would like to see is a system where users can opt in/out of service notifications, competitions and the like via the Web or via their cellphones. Users should be able to select what they want and what they do not want.

Just reply to this post with the following info.

Thanks.

Unsolicited messages per day/week/month (specify which)

Do they arrive at a time when you are sleeping?

Times you've sent a "Stop"/opt out message?

Did it help?

Have you tried phoning Customer Care to have this sorted out?

Did it help?

If this persists would you consider switching to another carrier?

If you do want to be notified of services, promotions etc;how would you like to be notified?

dont really bother me, but really wish their connection was as reliable as the systems they use to send those adverts. never seem to fail to get them to you. if only everything else worked so well with Vodacom

Have deleted most. The most recent one was on 30 October 2009. They're all 'Summer Promo' messages, as I recall.
Content (verbatim): "Make that Summer Connection & U could share in R27mil with Vodacom! Call UR boss, UR buddy or UR Boet! The more calls U make-all at normal rates-the better UR chances to win R100 airtime a minute,R100,000 a day or R1mil a week 'til 20Dec!SMS OUT to 30699 (FREE) to stop Summer promo messages.T&C apply"

PS: I'm on contract. I'm not sure why I'm receiving these.
PPS: Any message that uses U and UR is one that doesn't get read. Regardless of origin. If you want your marketing message to make an impact on me, don't bastardise the language.

Do they arrive at a time when you are sleeping?

I don't maintain normal sleeping hours... so N/A.

Times you've sent a "Stop"/opt out message?
Twice. 24/10/09 and 30/10/09.

Did it help?
The second one seems to have done it. But it's only been a few days. Let's wait and see.

Have you tried phoning Customer Care to have this sorted out?
No.

Did it help?
N/A.

If this persists would you consider switching to another carrier?
Nope. It's an irritation, but one I suspect all the carriers have, and I have had no other issues with VC. If it persists, I will take further action.

If you do want to be notified of services, promotions etc;how would you like to be notified?
email. Always email. I have an email address specifically for that.

There should be a reward for filling in your survey. I'm just saying.

All I want is to not be on the spamming list. Shouldnt be so difficult for the paying customer to be able to do this. They wont get anything off me by spamming me so why bother?

This a holes sent me an sms saying i'm subscribed to some summer promo thing and to unsubscribe i must sms OUT to this certain number, it said it's free to opt out. So i sent th sms to opt out and guess what? R2 of my airtime just went poof

Further more, what really annoys me is when i purchase a data bundle, if i have less than 4mb left i get spammed with a minimum of 5 sms's telling me i have less than 4mb left. These sms's are sent each time i connect to the net.

i'm seriously thinking of throwing away my VC sim and just using MTN and Virgin mobile

I'm getting more than ever since I made a fuss about it and sent STOP. The guy dealing with it keeps telling me they've stopped it, and I've had about 4 SMS's saying they've stopped it, but hey, they come every day. I've even sent them e-mail, but it gets just a ticket number and no reply.

Someone at Voda is having a laugh I'm sure!

It amazes me how they even advertise in their opt-out confirmation SMS!!

On the issue of Vodacom support, if you are satisfied with a company treating their customers like absolute dumb-asses, Vodacom will be perfect for you.

They'll get into some serious trouble some day, one cannot take such big chances and think you'll get away with it
