I use Office2 HD as the primary word processing application on my iPad and there are times when I need to attach two .DOC files (or two PDFs for that matter) but I havent figured out a way how to do this. Is there something pretty obvious that im missing or its the iOS operating system thats dumb?

From the last time I used mail, you could attach one at a time (except photos of course). This was in iOS5, so maybe that changed in iOS6.
The reasons why you likely got no responses after 140 views is cos:
1. Question might be more suited to Google, you get an answer in about 10 seconds, depending on how quick you read, instead of hitting refresh hoping for an answer :)
2. You should have downloaded a third party mail app cos the stock one is inadequate, and thus no need to ask the question
3. (I definitely thought you were pulling a sarcastic joke on iOS), dunno if anyone else thought the same here

I know that the iOS mail.app does now support multiple attachments but unfortunately I don't have Office2 so I can't say if that particular app supports it. Apps such as Goodreader does - and has for previous versions of iOS - so if Office2 doesnt support it you might consider contacting them.
